Okay but like, is Jack going back to Skypeia to get more overlooked lore, also Sengoku has a Human Human fruit Mythical Zoan: Model Buddha, Chopper literally got the vanilla version

Captaintrips

Shanks definitely knew that it was the Nika fruit. I personally think he stole it and then went to Goa Kingdom to give the fruit to Ace, who was his captain's son. Instead goofy ahh Luffy ate it at the bar without them realizing and the rest is history.

GSHAKE

Be careful how much you theorize here. The story is blown open from here on and it'll get very confusing if you start reading comments lol

Takeo Ryuu

I binge these videos so I'm actually back a few dozen episodes but given that it's THIS episode, I think I can make an exception. I can remember exactly where I was and how I felt when both the manga and anime adaptation of G5 came out, and both moments had me smiling non-stop for a week afterwards. To me, Luffy's peak is a lot more than a hype moment- it's the culmination of the themes of the entire series. Thousands of episodes, literal decades of masterful storytelling, all coming together to create a power-up that not only fits Luffy perfectly but also reminds us all what One Piece was all about from the beginning: Laughter and the freedom that laughter brings. One Piece has some of the most tragic stories in all of human fiction, but more importantly, each of those terrible, sad moments eventually leads to happiness and laughter, usually brought about by Luffy and the crew. Yes, we always look forward to the lore and the backstory of new characters, but One Piece wouldn't be the hopeful, optimistic, and hilarious story that it is if not for the fact that the story is told and changed through Luffy's actions, a main character who is the enemy of cynicism itself. And who best represents cynicism in the story? Kaido. A man who has seen the absolute worst of the world, and instead of trying to fight against it and remain hopeful, decided to participate in and manipulate the world's ugliness for his own gains. It's only fitting that the only person who can take him down in the end is a man who refuses to give up no matter what, who looks down on those who call things impossible, and who dreams constantly and protects the dreams of others. So when Gear Five happened and it wasn't some rage-induced power up or simple "training"-based power up, but instead Luffy's freedom and philosophy unleashed into his fight style (which began whimsical like himself but slowly was morphed into a haki-based technical style), and his refusal to conform to his opponent's seriousness, I knew in my heart that Oda was smiling, just like me, just like Luffy, and just like so many people around the world. Pure joy, not just hype, but everything that joy can be and everything that it embodies. So many people argue and argued about Nika and whether Oda planned Luffy's transformation, and whatever side of that debate you fall on I don't particularly care, because what I think IS clear and undeniable is that Oda always wanted to bring Luffy to this point. Regardless of how it happened, Oda always wanted Luffy's story to culminate into becoming a being of absolute and pure freedom and joy. That is so obvious from the writing. You can actually feel Oda's excitement and joy every single time Luffy goes G5, and it's that same charm that we all felt when we fell in love with the series and realized that Luffy's goofiness wasn't typical Shounen hi-jinks but rather an intentional and important part of Luffy's character and his journey. How after all the hype and emotions of Arlong Park, we all realized that the true magic of the series was the afterparty, the sheer relief and beauty of watching an imprisoned girl and her town finally attain freedom and bask in that wondrous feeling. The Alabasta feast, the Skypeia fire dance, the Water 7 rager, the Thriller Bark party and sunbathing, Fishman island's royal party, Punk Hazard's rushed but hilarious party, Dressrosa's mostly calm and optimistic rebuilding/celebration, and the party's in the future, not a single one feels repetitive or unnecessary. What's the point of watching all the suffering, watching all the tears and sweat and blood, if we don't get to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Luffy doesn't just fight the big bad of each island - he frees the people. He doesn't just split the clouds, he brings the dawn. Gear Five isn't just a new multiplier for Luffy's strength - it is a direct reflection of who he is and what he wants.

Captaintrips

Also here's a fun detail: When Luffy meets Momo in the toy dump Momo asks him how to turn off his dragon form, to which Luffy replies "I don't know. I'm not a Zoan". Oda loves to troll.

Saint Bonnie🎭™

The way my face went from 🤩 to 😐 when that hiyori came in

Gita

We have the same question about why the gov let the fruit run free, but my personal answer to that question connected to the truth we will get later, so for now, you can be confused like the rest of us when we are at this point of episode and haven't catch up with the manga lol.

Saint Bonnie🎭™

Not to put a dent on your theory but how would shanks know about Roger’s son? He only told garp and garp wouldn’t tell anyone

Dark Kronis

1: it hilarious kaido commits every evil imaginable with no remorse, get a fight interrupted, and he super sorry and apologized 2: yeah that the power of loony toons 3: why didn't the Government send every admiral and elite force the minute luffy showed up with the gum gum if they knew what it was, when luffy was a rookie

Captaintrips

That's the one problem with it, has never been confirmed he knew lol. The Ace novel does hint towards Shanks maybe knowing, and his actions so far are in line with it (like him begging WB to stop Ace from going after Blackbeard, or him taking his corpse to bury it after the war). In the end that's why it's just a theory, we don't have confirmation.

MadSwag

i havent rewatched episodes so this is my 2nd time ever seeing this and MAN does it still HIT HOLY SHIT

Deeren

I subscribed to the patreon specifically for these two episodes. Jack should REALLY re-watch Skypeia.

Gita

Oda had mentioned the Sun God in two Arcs before Wano. Who's who just elaborate more on it after a while. 1. Skypiea In Noland and Kalgara's backstory. The Shandorians pray to the Sun God. The altar where Merry was put as a "sacrifice" was the one that they used to put an offering for the Sun God. In that backstory, Kalgara's daughter was an offering in hopes that the Sun God would put a stop to the disease that spread in their village. She even said that she'll be "welcomed" by the Sun God before she brought to the altar. Noland saved her. 2. Whole Cake Island In Big Mom's backstory, the people of Elbaf had to fast for a certain amount of time to thank the Sun God for his blessings. They basically worship him as their God, like it's their faith. You can see how the Elbaf children pray in Big Mom's backstory. These two tribes are the ones we know worship the Sun God, but until Who's who revelation, we didn't know how important it is.

felix11

y'all remember when oda decided to take a break week after dropping the "joy boy has returned" chapter in the manga, and the youtube community went crazy with theories and thumbnails about luffy's awakening. Never gonna forget the resin-resin theory

Evan Lin

In the end for anime-only watchers, its kind of beneficial because of the lore bomb that was dropped. Just like Jack in this episode, it gave them a few minutes to process the biggest lore drop in the entire series.

felix11

I wanna think it’s the same way that whitebeard eventually figured out ace was Roger’s son, he just had a feeling but it was so long ago that I probably am misremembering

Dunion Rings

So, a few things. 1. Doflamingo was already awakened before the fight with Luffy. 2. The Elders don't want to draw attention to the Nika fruit. That's why they changed the name and try to covertly gather the fruit. 3. This Nika comparison was foreshadowing way before the Who's Who fight. All the way back to the Skypeia bonfire party, Luffy was drawn in that pose.

kissmyjackfrost

Been waiting for this moment for so long like coming up on like two years I think. I am so excited to watch his reaction to this!

Kian D. Johnson

How does Jack STILL NOT UNDERSTAND OBSERVATION HAKI.

Luis Cardona

I was on board for the Resin theories for a minute. Thank god Oda is the one writing the story and not the fans

Ender

It is so important for One Piece that Oda lives for this fiction. You can literally tell how much he cares about it, not only because it is his income source, not only because this is the work of his whole life but because he absolutely fell in love with the story and characters he wrote and still continues to write. This is pure passion and I would bet all my money on that if suddenly Oda earned no money at all from One Piece by tomorrow he would still enjoy writing it and would still finish it and you can feel that.

Ender

I have not seen one spoiling comment as of right now and neither a confusing one. Also I think this reaction recording must be at least one or two months ago since he streamed earlier this year ranking every arc and by then he already knew about the reveal. In addition I don´t think he reads comments on One Piece because of people spoiling.

lucy

stop OVERREACTING jack FOCUS on wtf the elders are saying, and you need to differentiate observation haki and voice of all things some other things : luffy is already a human, but that fruit is a zoan, human human fruit, mythical type model : Nika, that fruit give Luffy the properties of Nika, not just any human. and rubber is just part of the sun god power, even a “normal” mythical zoan have some sort of elemental abilities you’ll understand it more as you goes Doffy has awakened his df before that Luffy fight, Luffy only push him to use it eventually. anyway great episode great reaction looking forward for what’s next

wugimara

“Is bro powerful or is bro a goofball now” Well, yes

Gita

and Jack, by hearing someone’s voice isn’t the Voice of All Things, it’s just ordinary Observation Haki. Rayleigh explained to us that if someone can hear living things voices and determines their strength, it’s their Observation Haki. Koby awakened Observation Haki by hearing people’s voices disappear one by one in Marineford. Confirmed by the doctor after war. Same with Aisa on Skypiea, even Luffy pointed this out while training with Rayleigh. BUT to hear Zunesha, Sea Kings in Fishmand Island, that’s Voice of All Things. Oda has been clear about these two ability and their differences. This ability is even more rare than Conqueror’s Haki. The confirmed users in the series are Roger, Oden, Luffy and Momo.

Justin Moore

Should be safe to assume since Luffy is still coherent and is still who he is. That Nika, Joyboy, and Luffy are all just different individuals who had the same fruit at different times. Joyboy being 800 years ago and Nika could of been long before that. Luffy even before eating the fruit had a goofy side to him but also always emphasized on freedom. Along with him and the crew liberating every island they come across in some way. Luffy just needed to be pushed to his physical limit to unlock the awakening since his mindset had already been suited for it from the beginning. Bro needed more EXP.

Svenja

Called it

joaokappa

only saw the thumbnail and already know jack reaction is going to be legendary

erueka6

Well it's probably mostly arrogance and time they thought he was just another nobody, and it's been 800 years it's just another year for them how could he the small dumb pirate awaken it. The only time it's been ok for them to pull out all the stops on Luffy was post time skip and his destinations haven't been very conducive to his whereabouts, and ability for the government to act. It's punk hazard didn't know he was there. Dresrosa stopped by doflamingo and fujitora. Zou they can't get there. Whole cake didn't know he was there until Morgan's news and it's emperor's territory. Wano again didn't know he was there until cp0 it's a blockaded nation and the worst emperor's territory. So it's not that they didn't take action it's their first chance to is now.

ITS FINALLY TIME

Levy

I also remember during Impel Down arc that the prisoners were calling out the “God of salvation” or something along those lines when Luffy and Buggy broke into one of the floors.

TW1G N1NJ4

Idk if you remember or not but Sengoku devil fruit is also mythical human-human fruit 😂 his is model Buddha tho

Alexander Bo

Fun fact: For this and a few upcoming episodes, they had some Looney Tunes animators come in to help with the animation :D

Sanstorm

Luffy on Crystal Meth haha

Sanstorm

He got 5 on it

Kaptin81

Hardest drum beat in anime history!! Dolby ftw!!

Artemis

I have been on this planet earth for 40 years, 28 of them spent as an anime fan and I cannot praise enough the style, the originality and creativity, the innovative ideas and writing that went into this shonen plot twist. Which also makes us recontexualize everything we learned throughout this entire story of this historical moment in one piece history. I mean he broke the 4th wall barrior, well creating a bold artistic descision in luffy's G5/nika that seemingly is tied to 25+ years of one piece lore and story. It is also 150% luffy personaified to the absolute degree. Its uninhibited and free animation to the greatest extremes with as much chaos as possible, that parallels the themes in the story and Sun god nika bringing smiles to everyone around him (that includes us the audience who has followed this protagonist for so long) well also being unshackled to do what luffy wants in a world that is subjugated by its authority and justice of the Government. What else to say other then Oda is a Genius.

ElCompaGhost

hes completely caught up. I think he is watching weekly now.

Fae

Two things I wanna say about this episode. I'm pretty sure Luffy technically did die, and as you said his heart restarted similar to Eneru. And on the topic of his heart, "the drums of liberation" is his heartbeat. He even commented "why does my heart sound funny".

Artemis

To be fair, I don't think we have enough facts at this point in time, to truly differentiate Observation Haki from the voice of all things in paticular characters like sanji or Koby.

SimStu

HE'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!!! I have the biggest, dumbest smile on my face every single time 5th Gear is on screen. Also, in the dub, at one point Luffy laughs like Woody Woodpecker, possibly because Oda said Luffy would be Brazilian irl, and Woody Woodpecker is huge in Brazil. And right before Kaido gets hit with his own blast breath, he says "Mommy!"

Veritas

While the lore buildup and non-concrete bones of this has been subtle since East Blue since Oda's ideas for this was still gestating like a fetus then, the truth is there is sun iconography in virtually every saga before now on top of liberation themes. Sun tattoos, sun god altars, the fishman Joyboy promise, and the sunflowers on Dressrosa (including Luffy's shirt). However the point I'm certain Oda chose to blatantly tease this is Zou arc, meaning he planned this before Zou. Franky's shirt says HITO (Human) on it, with a sun instead of the O.

Artemis

When the shandians were praying for Eneru's downfall and it intentionally left ambigious for your interpertation as to what in the hell god they were praying to? Well now you know... The hints and planted seeds for Nika has been there all along in the story. Oda has probably coneptualized Nika since the very beginning.

Veritas

If I wanted to fully nerd out, I would write a book on the hundred parallels between Nika (and Enel) and all the other figures like Hanuman, Sun Wukong, Jesus, and Greek/Norse/Egyptian myths. Or better yet all the foreshadowing that is too much to be coincidental. Like to scratch that surface: Luffy loves beetles, the Egyptian sign of the sun. His ships are the Going Merry (Merry=Joy) and Thousand Sunny (Sunny=Sun and Joy). "Monkey King" Sun Wukong = Monkey D Luffy the King of Pirates.

Afro D. Jack

Shonen Jump #1 November 2002 w/ Blue-eyes white dragon JMP-001. 10 yr old me reading One piece chapter 1. G5 top 1.

Gita

Oh good catch!

Girthquake23

Hiyori: *having her girl boss moment* Jack: *In Shambles* "I've been lied to about his devil fruit for the entire show?"

blazera

yohoho he took a bite of hito hito no mi mythical zoan type model: Sun God Nika

PotatPengu

This has been foreshadowed since sky island and then again during the kaido fight. Kaido mentioned how luffy's gear 4 makes him move in ways that dont make sense for a gum gum fruit. this goes to show that oda has had a plan for the series from the beginning or perhaps even before that. The fruit itself gives the user immense power, freedom, and lets the user fight as they fancy which weaponizes the user's imagination. This power compliments luffy's imaginative fighting style as shown by his goofy attacks like water luffy or literally any of his attack moves. The government both in the real world and in the show have little space for imagination and creativity which is the complete opposite of what sun god nika stands for and so it purposefully avoids the government.

PotatPengu

not only that but the gum gum fruit hadnt been awakened by any one the past 800 years. its safe to say that people still ate it but were incapable of awakening it. its also established that awakening in general is a very rare phenomenon. government people probably thought the same of luffy until he got too strong.

Sorathezora

I am the same way. I like to think of it as luffys ability to make people smile is affecting me too

Renato Hiro

Just remember that it's not the first time another Human-Human Fruit is revealed besides Chopper's. Sengoku also has a Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Type, Model Buddha, it is revealed in Marineford (What makes me wonder if Chopper's Human-Human Fruit also has some hidden property, or if he's going to transform into a full human with powers in the future).

Simon Watson

We should have known (and i guess there were people who had theorized before the reveal) that Luffy was not a Paramycia. The clouds around him in Gear 4 are usually only seen on Zoans. It really does emphasize it here with Yamato having them too. Doflamingo mentioned that his fists bouncing off nothing in mid air isn't a property of rubber, Kaido says the same. Red Hawk being able to light on fire has nothing to do with rubber, Thor Gun that he used against Chinjao with electricity has nothing to do with rubber. The hints have been there for a fair while. It's kinda like how we just accepted that Sanji lighting his leg on fire and saying it was "passion" was just a quirk of Oda's writing.. til Queen questioned why a normal human can light their legs on fire lol.

Bryan Price

PEAK TIME!! I also love all the little details about Joyboy/the sun god. Luffy's ships are the Going Merry and Thousand Sunny, which is a nod to how Luffy and the crew have essentially been going from island to island, freeing the locals of whatever bad situation they are in and giving them the freedom to make a future for themselves. Gear 5 is essentially Looney Tunes power which they said he fights as he fancies and brings a smile to people, which literally happens to us the viewers. It's such a cool revelation and the lore from here on out goes hard too.

Umar

Toei teamed up with Warner bros to animate gear 5 Luffy vs Kaido🔥🔥

Amaryllis

I'm just so thankful you weren't spoiled before this. I got to enjoy it without spoilers, but I know a lot of people who knew it was coming, and it just doesn't have the same impact.

Kian D. Johnson

Coby's traumatised from hearing so many 'voices' die and the doctor's literally like "Yep that's Observation Haki".

chrisis

The greatest story ever told! G5 is the most creative and thought out transformation I've ever seen and perfectly personifies Luffy as a character. His design is so sick, I saw some colored panels where people originally thought his hair was gonna be on fire instead of white which I think would've looked dope but I still really like what we got. Incredible either way and I can't wait for the next OP upload!

Artemis

The "warrior of liberation" this is exactly what luffy wants so jack if you want to get naked, by all means. FEEL LIBERATED!!!

Artemis

Khan 2.0

Monsieur Sanji

Luffy WAS dead there by the way, his awakening revived him.

elementalist33

Remember Eneru's weird thing attached to his back with the drums? Gear 5 has the real thing.

brolster

an "awakened human" would definitely be seen as a God, so put that luffy has the Human Human fruit and Awakened it, he suddenly becomes the Sun God Nika

DiamonDust

Idk about that. Chopper 's fruit awakening does not make him a god. This is just specific to human human nika fruit.

brolster

That’s what I said, I said nothing about chopper at all lmao

cherry

chopper hasn't awakened... at least not yet

Rose Star

We don't know specific details about joyboy and nika to this point in the story, but we have been fed a HUGE lore drop in elbaph (i will not spoil) but we do believe they were 2 different people. That's all i will say on the topic.

Scrubthulhu

Oh god, I've waited so long to see these episodes with Jack. These are the episodes that literally made me start watching reactors for One Piece to see their journey to this point. I started watching Jack around the time these episodes came out. There's only two reactors I pay Patreon for and it's because of how emotionally invested they've gotten into this show. Thank you, Jack!

Maya

im curious who the other reactor is if u dont mind saying
