Now that you've finished the main line of One Piece movies, I highly recommend "One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase". It's a weird 3d CGI kind of short film that follows the Straw Hats on a quick fun adventure, but despite it's strangeness, it works in a weird theme-park kind of way. It's short and sweet, and in my opinion has some of the coolest visual depictions of Luffy's powers and the insane scale of things in One Piece to have ever been created. There are fights including giants in the film that REALLY make you feel the sheer size of the giants in a way that the manga and anime can only try to. Anyway, it's super fun and often overlooked in the One Piece movie canon. One Piece 3D2Y is also a fun film, it basically adds a non-canon (but could easily be canon since it doesn't clash with anything and also makes sense in the story) story that happens DURING timeskip, where we get to see Luffy in the midst of mastering Haki. It's a cool concept since we technically never get to see it in the story, we just see Luffy without Haki and then Luffy with pretty great control of Haki after time-skip. It also houses some great Boa interactions.

why is he crying on the thumbnail? 😭 i dont remember any part of the movie that could be this sad D:

José Lima

Think of who does young Figarland Garling look like in God Valley and there is your answer 😉

Uselesskazuma

I love how you said ''when did they meet??'' you would know if you watched the special episode before the movie!

Oh one other thing, it's worth noting for anyone that wasn't aware that One Piece Film Red may have been by far the most marketed One Piece movie to date. I'm talking, "it was shown in Times Square on the giant ball drop tower" levels of marketing. Maybe because of the collaboration with the rising idol Ado, but I swear we were hearing about ads and various huge marketing things for this movie every few days before it came out. The first reveal of the movie happened (iirc) on the same day that episode 1000 premiered, and there is an absolutely hilarious reaction to just the Film Red logo with Shanks appearing after it on Youtube in a French movie theatre. The level of hype in that video pretty much matches how most of the fanbase was reacting to the film, given that this was also around the time that Gear 5 was initially revealed so the fanbase was at an all time high in terms of activity. It was a fun moment in history. The One Piece youtube channel was even uploading a bunch of Uta shorts of her basically hyping up the movie and her music in character. That's the reason why out of all the films, Uta is probably the only non-canon (I know she's technically canon, but cmon now) character to STILL be getting a whole bunch of One Piece merch dedicated to her due to her popularity. At the time, Uta was literally everywhere and every store in the world that sold One Piece merch had Uta merch. Nowadays, things have mostly reverted back to normal, but I still see Uta merch out in the wild all the time so it's safe to say the impact of the marketing was quite successful. The movie when it came out was slightly underwhelming given all the hype for it, I mean of course it was very good, but there were definitely some strange pacing issues and the use of Ado's music in the movie didn't feel very properly integrated (which to be fair is very hard to do if the movie isn't a straight up musical). The tiny Gear 5 cameo was pretty cool though it did spoil/confuse some anime viewers since G5 had not been adapted yet. The main complaints involved Shanks not really being part of the movie after all the marketing and the name of the film, but to be honest I personally never had that much expectation given that we still barely know anything about even his basic personality. It's not like they had much to work with. Anyway, I will always appreciate the film for introducing me to Ado and her insanely skilled vocals. Most people liked "Backlight" the most, but I was and forever will be a "New Genesis" stan. I was already a massive fan of Yasutaka Nakata from Capsule and Perfume so that definitely helped.

lucy

you can see her silouhette in Wano when Shanks talk to Ryokugyu though im not sure if that's anime only or not

lucy

just rewatch the Elders scene few times, understand what they’re talking and you’ll know why they bring that up. combine that with the god valley flashback and the answer is obvious

lucy

there’s few filler episodes during wano that lead to this movie you’ll understand more if you watch that beforehand.

TripleZed

your name needed next

David Ramirez

Yes!! My favorite One Piece movie!!!

Uselesskazuma

admittedly i havent watched that many One Piece movies but this is my favorite by far, i love it

lucy

you underestimating how strong the connection need to be to execute what Yasopp and Usopp are doing no point intended

SimStu

Can't wait for your reaction to One Piece Film Blue, all about Buggy and his daughter, Bluta

Takeo Ryuu

Okay, now that I've actually watched the reaction, a couple final notes: Yes, this movie revealed that Shanks is of Figarland descent. I totally forgot about that, but I remember this being a pain point in the community at the time, just like how Stampede revealed Laugh Tale. People don't like being spoiled major plot points that haven't even been revealed in the manga in a non-canon movie. As others have mentioned, Uta is canon. However, everything about this film is considered not canon outside of her existence, so we know literally nothing about her in the main storyline. She might not be related to Shanks and Luffy at all in the actual canon, she could just be some famous singer. It's unknown whether Oda has any plans for her beyond the single panel he put her in, but my assumption is he only did that to help market the movie and not because he plans on using her character more in the future, which is VERY rare for Oda. The ending absolutely implies that Uta dies. Some people choose to believe that she just fell asleep, and the ending does technically leave it open-ended, but to me, the mood of the final parting just fit that conclusion FAR more. If Uta stayed alive, I would have expected her to wave at Luffy as she left with Shanks, or for there to be a generally more uplifting note to the last shots, but it was silent, dark, and Uta is nowhere to be seen. I also think it fits the story better if she dies, as much as I like her character. Even though it's a One Piece story, it would just feel too cheap if there was no side effect for her eating all those Wake-Mushrooms when it was made clear she was already near death and that she could be saved by drinking that medicine to fall asleep immediately (which she didn't do, she stayed awake to save everyone and literally sang 2 entire songs). The song she sings to wake everyone up made me cry as well. I think it really shows the power of music that I genuinely didn't feel that attached to the general story of this movie because of its weird pacing, Uta's kind of convoluted goals (which did eventually get explained, but felt far more complex than it needed to be to me), and the low stakes given that we know there's no way 70% of the One Piece world is going to die in a non-canon movie. Yet despite that, that song still hit me really hard just due to its beauty, Ado's amazing performance of it, and how those things matched with the visuals to create just a really emotional experience. To me, I wasn't even thinking of the story or what was happening in it, the song just transported me back to my past. Finally, I did already talk about it in my previous comment, but yes, they also did use Gear 5 visuals (though none of its actual effects, because it would have really clashed with the tone of the movie for Luffy to go Bugs Bunny mode while Uta is going suicidally insane) in the movie that was placed AFTER Whole Cake and before the anime had even reached Gear 5. It was our actual first look at Gear 5 animated, which again, was partways exciting, but also kind of spoiled it for a lot of people, especially anime-watchers. Thankfully, because of how huge the news of Gear 5 was when revealed in the manga, the vast majority of the anime-community already knew what it looked like, and the movie didn't spoil what Gear 5 actually IS, so I didn't have too many complaints. It does make no sense logically though, obviously, since Luffy definitely didn't have Gear 5 before Wano, but it was just used because the Gear 5 hype was on full steam and there was no way they were not going to capitalize on that. That's it from me. Film Red isn't my favorite One Piece movie (definitely has to go to Z), but it's definitely top 3 and I literally bought the Ado CD for the tracks from the movie. That CD also included the "young versions" of the two sadder tracks from the movie, which was kind of funny to me because they kind of just sound worse than the main versions of those tracks but I get what they were going for. The CD also includes Ado's version of Bink's Sake which got me super excited (I think you can find it online). To be fair it's not my favorite version of Bink's Sake, it's a little overproduced to me (because Bink's Sake is meant to be a Shanty of sorts, and I hate when Shanties get super produced and sound like pop vocals because it completely ruins the vibe for me) but just the fact that Ado's version of Bink's Sake exists makes me happy. To me, Film Red is a piece of One Piece history that makes me remember all the hype around One Piece in that year, it really was the year of One Piece.

QuarkUI

Uta is cannon, film red isn't though

Monsieur Sanji

Doesn't feel like it compared to 6, Z, Strongworld or even Gold to me honestly. It overall is less loved than those

Birbster3000

Heavily recommend listening to Ado. She's the singer for Uta in the movie and her voice is incredible. Lots of great songs.

Umar

Oda is a genius picking Ado who is Uta's singer and objectively the best singer in Japan right now. You should hear more of her songs

Umar

Yep it confirmed Shanks is a figarland👀

Ender

About the canon stuff and non canon stuff: What is happening in the movie isn´t canon, but relations, characters and some plot points that are mentioned on the side can be canon - just like Shiki is canon but not what happened is, or Douglas and the eternal port to laugh tale might be but it never happened it that way. So Uta is definetly canon (there are even manga chapters and episodes for her to also tease the movie) and the backstory of Uta and Luffy is also canon - the movie plot isn´t so this isn´t the first canon interaction between Yassop and Ussop but fanservice. So to say: The Gorosei talking about Shanks relations and the way how Shanks got onto Rogers ship are canon and teasers to what to come. Uta may be alive and still coming up in the story, but maybe not since she could´ve died another way in the canon story, for all we know: She exists. Also fun fact: This movies airing was a very difficult one, since they wanted it to come out on the 25th anniversary and it having involved Shanks, so Oda had to come up with something in the canon story of Wano kuni to introduce Shanks, without him doing anything relevant to hype up Film red (thus his somewhat questionable scene in post Wano) - meanwhile the manga was at the ending of Wano the anime hadn´t even reached gear 5 and of course manga readers wanted to see gear 5 animated and expected somewhat of an teaser. That said they mastered it perfectly without spoiling too much about gear 5 so you were right, it straight up was gear 5 and solely because of that fact we didn´t see any gear 5 attacks by Luffy. I think they did very well on this movie for their circumstances.

Umar

Gordon has the same VA as Nanami from JJK

José Lima

Kaptin81

The music video for Tot Musica is insanely good!! They use Uta and the One Piece animation. Plus the song is just a total banger ❤️

PotatPengu

Uta is actually a canon character. its just that the events of this movie probably isnt.

Bryant B

Please do 3d2y next!! Such a fun moviee and one of my fav one piece movies! Takes place during 2 year time skip while luffy is learning haki!😁

José Lima

VASILIS PAGOURAS

brothe Kidd is not getting past Benn damn i dont think he can go past Yassop just accept reality and move on

Trijim

yeah the events in the movie aren't canon. However I'd like to think that the events in windmill village or whatever its called are just because I like it and makes sense to make canon.

PotatPengu

I agree. safe to say that any flash backs would be canon since it's part of their character. who knows though

Blackest Hippy

“She probably got taken by CPS” that might just be the funniest thing you’ve ever said my guy 😭

Blackest Hippy

had to comment to keep the sanji pfp train going 😂 having watched all the movies, red is my favorite by far

JeanSZ

as a fact, oda said that all the relations in the movie are canon, so uta is canon and it's shanks daughter, also there are some episodes mid wano that were a promotion for the movie, those episodes tell a extended version of uta and luffy relationship when they were childs, that's also canon, but we don't know about what's uta doing right now in canon, there's also an episode en the wano epilogue were shanks is talking about the new generations and it shows uta for a second, in anime, and manga

Created_4Games

@Jose Lima Hahah i cant, thats based "useless kid", you are the goat!

Created_4Games

I agree 3D2Y is a good special Episode/Movie, i would recommend!

Created_4Games

The Uta preformance was sung by Ado, she is a realy good japanese singer. Her music is goated & she sung the intro of Spy X Family too <3

Created_4Games

in deed, i did watch it 3 times, once in my native language german and the other 2 in Japansese xD

Created_4Games

Goated comment! Everything correct and on point! Must read. Episode 1029 & 1030 are the long version of the luffy & Uta flashback.

lucy

its crazy how annoying and cringe you've been since catch up but that's part of the fun

Ryuji

The singer also collab with Imagine Dragons.

Ant

2 minutes in and Jack’s already getting racist

Luis Garza

Now I just need a reaction to the music done by the singer Ado! Such banger songs and a great artist. My queen!

Sceptic Llama

Since people have been confirming Uta is cannon, i'll also confirm that she is alive in modern canon, at least to the best of my knowledge, although who knows if she'll ever show up again or just be referenced. Maybe in one of those "Seen from other areas" montages we get sometimes. Regardless, i like this movie, its one of my favorites, although i was a bit put off by the music at first (not a big musical guys) i think the story makes up for it.
