This isn't a spoiler since Kenpachi already said it, it just wasn't explained clearly. Basically, if one has a lot more spiritual pressure, like Kenpachi then it can make him 'uncuttable' or immune from less powerful fighters but if the person with less spiritual pressure focuses it then it can cut through. The reason why Ichigo could cut Kenpachi was because he focused his mind and spiritual pressure into his blade. It's basically the same thing that Urahara tried to teach Ichigo: "When you attack you kill" that instinct to focus and fight.

He cut because he concentrated his Spiritual Pressure, SP is your atk and def stat, if your atk is high enough you can cut Honestly there is some weird canon with exactly what zanpakuto are but simplest terms, Captains have insane Spiritual Pressure but their swords are small, its because they compact them, Ichigo doesnt

You gotta think of Spiritual Pressure/Power like water. Spiritual Power would be a big bucket of water. Spiritual Pressure would be the force exerted by compressing/honing/concentrating it. Bonus tip for powerscaling: Unlike most other power systems, there's a focus on introspection that plays a big part in how strong someone is. Ichigo finding his resolve allowed him to win vs Renji and to cut Kenpachi
