This is Jojos at its most iconic. The first two parts heavily show their age, which for me is a large part of the charm, and they are elevated by the animation, music and the sounds. It's all style over substance, with nothing particularly well thought or planned out, which is very typical of manga of the time. I like it but it doesn't surprise me at all when the first parts don't grip others like they did me. Now Stardust Crusaders is a different beast. It's still all style over substance, of course, but it has been refined at this point, what didn't work gets dropped (like hamon, probably the most boring power system in all of anime) and what does work get upped (like the ridiculous poses, scenario's and nonsensical character designs). It's not downhill after Stardust, every part has its own charm and things get only more bizare and unpredictable as time goes on, but when I think of Jojo's then I think of this group of testosterone-filled musclebound idiots gointg to egypt to beat up the evil egomaniacal vampire who cursed them by stealing their dead grandfathers body.
