Some clarification: bonneys fruit is called the age age fruit. It’s primarily a fruit that allows you to imagine … your future / people’s future / past and go to it. Her turning young/old is her imagining herself at different ages. Her distorted futures are things where she imagines herself in a different future (one where she is nika, one where she is a giant, etc). All her attacks adjust this including her painful attack NDE (near death experience). It does primarily rely on her imagination and possibility of the world but is not a nika fruit per se.

You are actually on point about Bonney's Devil Fruit being her imagination. It's cosplaying and putting on her hero costume, 'an illusion,' as Mars said. She basically can make 'a future' where she is ... . Like a future where she is a Giant, a future where she has rubber power because that's what Nika described by Kuma, now that she saw what Nika looks like, she can imagine herself being the real Nika, which is Luffy in Gear 5. Though only the exterior and basic power rubber. Durability, Power, and Haki are still hers and not Luffy's. It's the extension of Age-age fruit, because past/present/future still ties with age/time, and it's not necessarily awakening. Just the extension of her power, like Luffy with Gear 3/Gear 4.

It's the same skill tree point when he rubberizes anything. Well points. Because "Haki is King." Luffy in Gear 5th (Nika Awakening) is him innately channeling his Ryuo Haki through his Conquorers Haki. On its own it was a pulse that could knock people out. But with Ryuo and Awakening, he has an orb of invisible rubbery Ryuo around him that's constantly attempting to invade his surroundings. He learned to channel his Conquorers through his Ryuo on Onigashima against Kaidou, this being the singularity effect of two high tiers (usually Yonkou tiers) clashing. It's essentially an invisible level of Haki trying to reach into the enemy, but if the enemy is doing the same, it creates the physical distance of two invisible walls trying to invade the other invisible wall. With this in mind, Luffy had hit such a high level of Ryuo and Conquorers against Kaidou that he innately reversed their combination and this both unlocked his Awakening and gives him a skill that appears like a Paramythia Awakening. This effect is represented by the yellow/gold lightning of Gear 5th and he's essentially invading and conqueroring everything around him so he's turning it rubbery. This is why the ground (and Sea here) bounces, why he can punch through people and how he bounces off of things like kicked up dust. On top of that, he can, what seems like reality warping, create goggles from his hair because he has such control of his own rubber, and he can conquer it so well that he can shape himself into ways that make zero sense normally. Him running on the air is also a more refined control of Gum Gum UFO but he can spin each leg independently vertically, rather than both horizontally. One Piece is Art. Both in writing but especially in visualization. Haki is a power of visualization as well. You need to use your artists eye to be able to see what's going on and since most fans of the series (and anime in general) aren't artistically inclined they make up surface level excuses like "he's reality warping" or "it's the power of Toon Force." No. It's Oda, he's an artistic and storytelling mastermind. Most people just aren't paying enough attention so they make up vague excuses to pretend to be correct

So Bonnie's fruit is basically the power of imagination. She can make herself older and younger, but as long as she can imagine a future version of herself, she can also turn into that with Distorted Future. That's why the Age Age fruit is so powerful when the user is a child, it's easy for a child to imagine themselves as a giant or as Nika.

Bonney's fruit just lets her manipulate her own timeline and to an extent the timelines of others. She can reverse her own timeline into previous forms she's had such as that of a small child, but the real power of it is being able to take on any form she might have in a future timeline she can foresee. For example she can become Nika because in her childish mind she could imagine becoming Nika, or at least Nika-like in the future. That's why Saturn said she will grow weaker as she grows older. Growing up will both limit her imagination and also the scope of her prospective futures, which in turn will weaken her devil fruit power.
