Now that we will have proper seasons, (on and off for 3 months), the question of reading the manga is much different. While the anime does hit some highs and the pacing and more consistent will be better going forward ... you'll also have some massive gaps. Oda penned in the latest Jump Fiesta that we are going to continue going at super speed and the latest flashback was peak in different ways. If you are truly missing One Piece and want weekly injections, I say read weekly. You have a lot to react to though, so may not be worth it. It seems we are closer than ever to the end game and the question of "will the series will be spoiled if I'm not perfectly up-to-date" is much more on the realm of yeah, the major questions we have will be answered sooner rather than later. But if thats the case and you just want to avoid it from waiting for the anime and hearing it all over the anime, we could always warn you too.

Kim Adams

If you read the Manga, your reactions won't be unspoiled 😕

Shirahoshi is poseidon, pluton was under wano, and people think that uranus was the one that the government has (what they used to destroy lulusia)

Azael Santacruz

My personal suggestion about reading the Manga would be you could read them live (without showing the pages) and still record your reactions to each manga chapter so you can also upload the videos... Yes the sad part about this is your anime reactions won't have the same impact for you probabbly because now you will know what will hapen, but if you read the manga you will discover so much new info that will definitely let you satisfied and also it would allow you to do more new type of content like weekly manga reviews, or start crafting your own theory videos or reacting to other people's theories if you ever want to ... But at the end its all up to you, you could also take those 3 months to dedicate to other series as well ... i will also suggest to ask some of your friends that are both caught up on anime and or manga, like Heisuten and what he did, and if he thought it was the right desicion for him and what does he recomend for you.

chopchop

Jack they erased their memories! If you were to go back none of their reactions to the things that transpired during the arc is acting! Ancient weapons refresher: - Pluton is the ship thats confirmed to be beneath wano - Shirahoshi is already confirmed poseidon - The story heavily hints the government is under possession of Uranus and that's what was used to take out lulusia, though this one is not confirmed yet. And personally I wouldnt mind you doing manga reactions 🫣 (you shouldn't tho)

Alex Tavera

i mean... yes? but he could react to the manga. thought i will say that manga reactions are not as fun, "LOL"

Ubaid

Definitely read the manga!! It has been going even crazier since egghead ended (if u can believe that).

Ant

I’m 100% sure he didn’t mean past the point of where the show is up to

Ant

You should definitely read the manga! Maybe even read alongs on twitch? Could be too much effort though so even if that doesn’t happen, you totally have to read it in ur own time :D

We know about 3 Ancient Weapons used in the War before WG was created. 1. Pluton, we know about its location, confirmed under Wano. The Alabasta poneglyph only showed information on where it lies, which pointed to Wano. Not that it's under Alabasta. The Ship blueprint Franky had is only the tool to 'counter' Pluton, not necessarily confirming that Pluton is a ship. 2. Poseidon, or as we know, Shirahosi. We knew about the location from the Poneglyph that Robin read in Skypeia. It's the same as Alabasta's. Only showed information about where the ancient weapon is. 3. Uranus, we basically know nothing about this, but as you know from Vegapunk's theory, the WG has it, and the mother flame is the 'fuel' to activate it. But so far, as Vegapunk said, it's his theory. We don't know for sure, unlike other weapons. Well, it's fine to read the Manga, which might be good during twitch stream because people might give you bits of information or references as you read, because the lore would be heavy on this one, but for the anime reaction, you would know what happened, so it might not be as fun. I found reading isn't as fun as watching, yet i'd rather give up fun than have to wait years to know what happened in the current manga lol

MadSwag

i see alot of ppl saying to read the manga am wondering myself should i? but idk i feel like if i read the manga il already know what will happen in the anime and idk it will kinda ruin the fun of not knowing? and i seen alot of ppl compare manga and anime if i dont wanna do that

ObiAida

I think you would enjoy reading the manga, but the quality of the reactions might suffer a lot. I personally enjoy unspoiled reactions much much more

Uselesskazuma

Reactions definitely will take a huge hit if you read the manga, because not knowing is much more interesting than the ones where the person knows something big is coming and is just waiting for that to happen

2026-09-06 00:00 Pretty sure everyone who reads manga gaslights themselves that they don't regret reading it and then of course they will want to spread that to others, like you and say to read the manga to share it together. They got addicted with manga and binged it and there is no going back. And then they wait 1 month for 1 animated episode which 60% of it will be talking, which won't be new information to them, so they will be bored, then 20% will be average fights and then 20% of actually something good, but the problem is then say "I just waited 1 month for that?" anime is so trash, do you have any idea what's going on in the manga now??!!? Of course I'm happy people read manga and it's popular cause anime exists cause of it but I don't get it. why would you read frozen frames, no music, no voice acting, no animation, no amazing direction. People also get mad that anime doesn't do something exactly like manga cause it's the original source, even though the change might have been better. And many of the people's social media is around anime, so they tell themselves I read it to not get spoiled, although I have been avoiding spoils for years. In my eyes It's just literally like spoiling myself and I personally would be mad. If it was reversed and anime was 2 years ahead, then nobody would care about the manga. At least wait till elbaf gets animated to decide

If you read the manga, you should do chapter reactions, id love to see

Disingenuous take. There are so many manga that are superior to their anime counterparts like berserk, kingdom, promised neverland and Tokyo ghoul to name a few. Even with one piece, while I enjoy the anime, unless it’s a specially directed episode like 1015 or 982, only fights are adapted better. Even in elbaph they’ve said that they are still doing a 1:1 chapter to episode ratio when they come back even with the breaks. Also there’s so much stuff in there that doesn’t get adapted into the anime so you’re missing stuff like cover stories and SBS where you actually learn some important stuff. Also some stuff just flows better in the manga as a result of the medium and the inner monologue and talking to the opponent mid fight isn’t as cringe as it is in the anime. Also as a result of the current internet landscape, when the one piece is revealed that’s gonna get unfortunately spoiled for a lot of people just like how gear 5 was or some future jjk stuff as well for people.

Svenja

I've started reading the manga in 2002 and I've also watched the anime once it released in germany, some arcs even 6-7 times now. Of course the reaction to the anime will be different if you read the manga because you'll already know the big lore revelations. But other than that I am still super excited for every episode of the anime and enjoy it a lot. Sometimes I even forget things from the manga and the anime reminds me, so that's good too lol

Y0m0three

L Take and incredibly presumptuous. It's seriously just a preference thing. I watch the anime and I read the manga. I enjoy consuming the series in both mediums, it just gives me twice as much One Piece to look forward to. I like reading the manga because I enjoy engaging in discussions about information as it is revealed to us rather than a year or two later when it gets animated, trying to guess what might happen next after a new chapter drops is one of the most entertaining aspects of One Piece for me. Equally, I enjoy watching the anime because seeing the manga content adapted in motion is always interesting, even if I'm not always 100% happy with how it gets adapted. Does that mean both mediums are for everyone? No. But claiming all manga readers regret catching up and are gaslighting themselves is just ridiculous.

joaokappa

not really a fan of manga reactions. it's worth the read (for me its the best way to consume one piece) but i probably wont be watching reactions since you already know whats coming up so it wont be as entertaining for me. but its up to you to choose how you enjoy one piece, this is just my opinion

DevinAnime Reactions

I personally prefer anime reactions but i would still watch manga reactions

Wesley Owens

Borsalino popping off was sick but so far everyone I've watched misses the fact Akainu calls Borsalino his brother in that call. That's new info we didn't know they were related.

Blackest Hippy

he didn't mean his literal brother 🤦🏿‍♂️

Blackest Hippy

the manga will always be better. the fun of not knowing is better for reading the manga, a well paced chapter vs an anime episode that is horribly paced and alters and changes source material.

Blackest Hippy

cringe. the manga will always be superior

kaizelx

I see a lot of different takes here that are all valid, I personally started reading the manga after Wano and I love it. However, I personally prefer watching reactions from people who are anime-only reacting to new information for the first time. I've dropped a few One piece creators who read the manga because their anime reactions became boring (to me atleast), because they already know and aren't reacting as much anymore. Plus some of them stream their reactions so half the time they're just reading chat and not getting immersed to the anime because why should they? they already know what's gonna happen. I might end up dropping your One Piece reactions if you decide to read the manga but then again, it's your decision and you can do what you want, I'm just giving my own opinion because I'll continue to stick around for Bleach and Jojo.

Gita

You basically just said people who prefer reading to watching are gaslighting themselves when it's just their preferences. Some people love to absorb the story through reading rather than watching the adaptations, and that didn't only apply to One Piece. Shocking.

The Fphat Gamer

for me as a watcher i wouldnt enjoy watching your reactions if you knew the story already however as an enjoyer of the story im sure the manga is the best way to take in the story so im torn on that question

Christopher Joseph Frost

I'm a manga reader, but those who are anime only I recommend staying anime only. You get a experience with being anime only you don't get if you read the manga then watch the anime. I take enjoyment from watching anime only people react to stuff for the first time.

Priggi

I started reading the manga after the Straw Hats suffered their defeat on Sabaody. I just wanted MORE. And I didn't want to wait forever for new OP episodes to come out. Nowadays, I read a chapter every week and catch up on several episodes of the anime every few weeks. For me, knowing the story builds up a little hype every time I see how absurd and extreme things look in animation. The fights, all the new visuals, I love it :D The weekly wait is just postponed and the hype is different compared to just watching the anime :)

Wesley Owens

Oh, I've literally thought that this whole time and I know a few other people that do too. But you're right, the japanese word is kyoudai, which means brotherlike bond. That's really bizarre, I really don't like that translation choice then. Kind of disappointing also because even though this is the most Kizaru we've had it still feels like we know barely anything about him they're really drip feeding us on who he is.

Karatsuki

Morgans is already on the run BECAUSE the WG already targeted him And bro also forgot about Luffy already eating hakarl to recover like couple episodes ago

dotPHUNK

Should you read the Manga? The manga is truly amazing. The question is, where should you start reading it? Chapter 1 or 1124. Side note Elbaf starts around 1126 but if you started reading today you'd want to start at 1124 but I imagine after next Sunday's episode it'll be 1125/1126 is where you will want to start reading to catch up. The reason I say to start at chapter 1 is because there are differences. Some very subtle, some major. The pacing is much better (obviously) and there is additional story addition/changes. There is almost no censorship in the manga, and the biggest thing... cover stories. As you know Enel went to the moon, there are other stories that you may not know of that are... some even mention your goat, Mori. So IMO, yes, you should read the manga.

dotPHUNK

The Ancient Weapons? The poneglyph in Alabasta mentions that Pluton is in Wano, deep beneath the big mountain, way underground/under the ocean. It is said that if you want to retrieve Pluton you would have to break the walls guarding Wano and open it to the world. It is said to be a battle ship that is highly advanced and capable of mass destruction. The blueprints back in Enis Lobby that Franky shows are the blue prints that made it and were to be used to build another one encase Pluton ever resurfaced. Franky destroyed them when he knew Robin wasn't seeking out the Pluton. The poneglyph at the top of Skypiea mentions the existence of the next ancient weapon Poseidon. There weren't much details, other than we assume it told the reader that it was in Fish-man island. As you know Poseidon is Shirahoshi. Before her it was last known used during the Void Century by the person who made the promise with Joyboy.

dotPHUNK

As for Uranus, we don't know much about it. It was first mentioned when Robin and King Neptune were talking about them. She says there are three ancient weapons that bear the name of the "gods." It is believed that the weapon that destroyed Lulusia was Uranus. The reason why the world government (Imu) hasn't been using it for the past 800 years is because they did not have a power source, which York provided them. However, as Vega Punk said this episode, it is incomplete. What that means, we don't know. Again, the part about that weapon being Uranus is just theory, but a very strong one at that seeing as how Vega Punk said the only thing capable of that destruction and aftermath (water level rising 1 meter) was an ancient weapon.

dotPHUNK

So... we don't know if Pluton needs an energy source to power it. Shirahoshi obviously only needs food as an energy source.

Ender

LOL

Ender

Kyodai itself means sibling and in this instance brother. It is often used for directly relatives as well as symbolic relatives. When it is used it means that they see each other as equals - Aniki on the other hand means big brother but when it is used for non-blood-relatives then it means that the brother is the bigger, protector and caring brother. In One Piece Aniki is often used by others when they talk to Franky. Kyodai is less often used in One Piece but in Yakuza for example it is very frequent.

Demond Hampton

Anime reactions won’t be the same. I don’t think you need to read the manga until the one piece is close to being revealed

Teddy Biggles

You must live in the whitest place imaginable if you've never called someone brother before
