the guy with Ukitake wasnt the 69 guy (Hisagi), it was kaien before he became lieutenant. but yeah without the number and the tape in the face they look similar. Hisagi is the lieutenant under Komamura in the current time. we also know from the rukia and renji backstory that he is in the academy at the same time as them so it would be a little bit early for him to become lieutenant :)

Everything i'm going to say has been referenced, shown, or discussed on screen already so no spoilers here. So one thing of importance is something you kind of touched on about the prison system. Soul Society isn't a perfect place as you can see since they're keeping people imprisoned who haven't even done anything. The reason being that they're considered by the criteria set by Central 46, which is concerning. Throughout the arcs we have seen Aizen's motivations little by little, but he wants to surpass the level of a soul reaper and hollow which he said back at the end of soul society arc. Clearly he didn't approve of central 46's decisions but not because of their morals. He just didn't care. But while we follow Ichigo, when he first enters soul society, he questions so much of their decisions regarding rukia's execution, Byakuya's philosophy on following the rules, etc. While we follow the soul reapers, we think they're good guys because they're our home team basically. But they aren't perfect and even the 7th Espada, Zommari calls the soul reapers actions out when he was about to be killed by Byakuya. Or when the Soul Society wiped out all the quincies so Uryu and his dad are the last ones alive. This prison system is another example of the morals of soul society and why it can be an issue. Urahara brings it up to Hiyori so she can see that Soul Society isn't perfect as a whole, rather than her just blaming Squad 2's way of thinking/taking action. Does Urahara agree with it? it's an interesting discussion brought up and it helps retroactively make you question scenes from past episodes, as well as something to keep in mind for future episodes.

Reminder that when Aizen took the Hogyoku out of Rukia at the end of the Soul Society Arc he told Ichigo that Urahara, "invented" the Hogyoku and then couldn't figure out how to destroy it. So based off that it's likely him building an R&D department and hiring Mayuri could be related. Also kudos for remembering the Flashstep argument between Byakuya and Yoruichi in Soul Society Arc there is like a shit ton going on in the story rn it is really tough without being able to look at a wiki. Also why the hell was that 1 dude sweeping the grass like bro is just moving dirt around.

Hisagi (mr 69) is/was tousens lieutenant in current timeline. Iba is Kommamuras lieutenant. This mini arc is awesome but there is alot of characters to try to recognise and remember
