Just a heads-up: the bunch of fillers you mentioned is actually one whole filler arc, but the last episode of it (342) is canon and basically wraps up this arc. It would be really nice if you could watch the next 3 episodes together to finish this arc, and then next week we can start a new one.

Gin is one of those characters where you have to rewatch the series to see how amazing of a character he really was. Gin's betrayal of Aizen recontextualizes everything that Gin ever did, it's super interesting on a rewatch. Just to explain what you saw, though, basically Aizen was collecting the energy from people's souls to feed to his own Hogyoku long before he took Urahara's. Some henchmen who worked for Aizen stole a portion of Rangiku's soul to give to Aizen for his hogyoku and it almost killed her. Gin saw this and dedicated his entire life to killing Aizen because he was in love with Rangiku so he wanted revenge. I'm sure at some point Gin's motivations shifted from just revenge to also protecting Rangiku in the future since he knew Aizen was still a threat to all of soul society.

I'm sure that people already told you, but I'm just gonna address it again, in case you haven't seen it, but Ichimaru and Rangiku are "just" childhood friends. They were never in the same squad. Ichimaru is Captain of the Third Divison with Kira as his lieutenant and Matsumoto is the lieutenant of the Tenth Division under Hitsugaya. It is very easy to overlook with how connected Matsumoto and Gin have been in this arc but yeah. The turn finally happened which showed that Gin has been a double-agent for OVER A CENTURY, just to take revenge for Matsumoto. As Aizen explained this episode, his people attacked many people in the Soul Society and took part of their soul to feed to the Hogyoku, and one of the victims of those attacks was Matsumoto. He work for Aizen and as his right-hand just for the chance to avenge her, which was never explictly explained here in the anime, but you get the gist from context clues. It really makes you see his interactions in earlier arcs in a different light. Gin is not a good person, due to how many people he has hurt or killed for his goal, but in the end, it was all just to kill Aizen and help Matsumoto, which he hopefully conveyed in the end. A truly tragic villain. Gin literally was the one person who came closest to killing Aizen for good due to being the only person close enough to know and abuse the weakness of Kyoka Suigetsu, while having the killing power necessary with his Bankai's poison! If it weren't for the Hogyoku unlocking his transcendent form, Aizen would have actually died here. It "took" too long and the update file of the Hogyoku got unpacked, before Gin could delete him. Aizen is so overconfident, it's hilarious. He knew that Gin would betray him, but still let him, which almost killed him and when Ichigo was completely overwhelming him, he was looking for dozen different explanations, for how this would make sense, without diminishing how great, smart and powerful he is. Fun to watch ngl. But Ichigo's looking fiiiiiine with that look. I wonder what character arc he went through. Very weird.

The thing is, gin did EVERYTHING right. Unfortunately he's not the main character so it didn't work. Its definitely an itachi situation where looking back on his lines you see him in a much different way

The entire theory from Aizen about Ichigo converting all his spiritual pressure to physical stats is completely unfounded. He's literally just coping over the fact Ichigo is that much stronger that he can't even sense him anymore.
