Ishida Souken is Uryu's grandpa and the one that trained him to be a quincy as a child. Quilge Opie is saying that Souken split from the rest of the quincy at some point and didn't join the Wandenreich, which is why Ishida's techniques are considered old and outdated by him.

German lesson of the week, a lot this episode: Daten = Data; Heiligpfeil = Holy Arrow; Quincy: Letzt Stil = Quincy: Final Style; Quincy: Vollständig = Quincy: Complete; Jagdarmee = Hunting Army; Sklaverei = Slavery; Blut = Blood; Sternritter = Star Knights This episode is a showcase of what Quincy are truly capable off. Quincy absorb Reishi to strengthen themselves and Letzt Stil was only used once by Ishida in his battle against Mayuri, which made him powerful enough to one-shot Mayuris Bankai but made him lose his power. The Vollständig is supposed to be the perfected version of that. No drawback of losing their power, while still maintaining the insane power boost. Sklaverei is similarly the Reishi manipulation and absorption cranked up to the highest level, as if the Reishi is subservient to them, which is why the name means slavery. Subtil, I know. A war between Soul Reaper and Quincy is gonna be.....fun to say the least, knowing how powerful just ONE of them is! Also Quilge saying to Ichigo that Ishida being weaker than him is impossible. Why does everybody know more than Ishida himself? Also just to mention: The subs call Vollständig "Voll Stern Dich" for some reason, which literally has no meaning. Many people just call that form their "Holy Form" to make it simpler.

A couple things to note here. 1. Mayuri said Yamamoto "couldn't" kill the Quincy King, not "didn't", implying that he just wasn't able to. 2. The reason the Quincy kill hollows is to survive. We've seen that Soul Reapers don't always get there in time, so the Quincy refused to stop killing Hollows because that would mean the Hollows could just keep killing until a Soul Reaper finally arrived.

Whatever degree of censorship was in OG Bleach, Bleach TYBW is the complete opposite. Also imo, this Wandenreich invasion makes the Pain invasion look like a schoolyard fist fight in comparison lol

yeah a lot of people miss this. He literally wiped out 28k souls and Yamamoto was more upset about him not asking permission. Yama is softer currently but old Yama wouldn't have given a fuck and hints of his old self showed in that exchange. Soul Reapers are good guys in our eyes cause we follow their POV. I get that it's shocking, but did you not hear the part about both worlds being destroyed if that wasn't done? The silver lining is that those 28k souls will be reborn into the human world as newborns. I agree that soul society are not stereotypical "good guys" but the world would have ended if they did not kill those 28k.

I would agree with you in this particular case if before this soul society were beacon of justice and kindness. Just as reminder of what not stereotypical "good guys" did before: they were willing to execute Rukia without any investigation or hearings and end up being manipulated by Aizen; Tosen friend got killed by her husband and he got away just because he part of noble family; Mayuri casually blow up dozen of his subordinates (was it also for greater good?) and never punished for it; they have place called "maggot nest" where they lock up people who did absolutely nothing wrong, but they maybe will be problem in future so they robbed of freedom; there are many more examples and maybe you can find excuse for each one individually, but all together it makes really hard to call them "good guys", even not stereotypical.

while there were plenty of scenes added in this episodes, there's also quite a few parts that were rearranged or just flat out removed; some of those cuts make sense to help with the pacing (particularly the comedic scenes that would have clashed against the seriousness of the arc) , while others I would've personally preferred to be adapted. There was a scene with some of the lieutenants gathered, such as Renji, Rukia, Nanao, Kira, etc, discussing the Captains meeting, with Kira deducing that the disappearance of the 28,000 Rukon district residences must have been caused by the Soul Reapers and that Mayuri is involved. There's also a part cut where after Quilge activates his holy form, there's some inner monologue by Orihime figuring out that the reason they cannot sense Quilge's reishi is because reishi is something to be absorbed, not emitted, something that they've perfected to a massive degree.
