Love your take on veganism. Spot-on. I use the same argument simply from a human animal as a machine perspective; Cows are ruminants and eat grass, and they chew their cud. Humans are omnivores, like our closest non-human primate cousin, the Chimp (both standard and Bonobo). Per Dawkins there's we're equally-related to both, though we have sex more like Bonobos but we can be violent like Standards. Cats are obligate carnivores. They must consume meat, though occasionally they may ingest grass material as a natural gut flora assist or for other reasons if they're feeling out of sorts. So, would anyone advocate giving cows steaks and broccoli and rutabaga for a cat? If not, why do people make ethical arguments when humans evolved eating meat, where meat fostered bipedalism (freeing up our worlds-conquering hands to make and use tools) and dramatically increasing our brain power? Plus, meat has complete protein chains and B12, along with necessary fat we need. With non-meat food one has to carefully pair proteins....but we only know this because very smart omnivore scientists figured it out, LOL. Great topic. There's a great book on this by Lierre Keith (a former 20-year vegan) on how a vegan diet almost killed her. It's called 'The Vegatarian Myth'.

Fundamentally, I agree with what you write. But beyond that is the concept of 'Ahimsa', compassionate for all non-sentient beings. This is not the context for further discussion !
