Toyota is destined to be the next Blackberry.

Neil K

I worked at Toyota, wait scratch that... I served at Toyota for 3 years and what SMR says about Toyota workers answering "yes sir right away sir" is spot on and exactly how the entire company culture is set up. Toyota was the most bureaucratic company I have ever worked for. Getting anything done there was always a near impossible task due to the insane amount of bureaucracy and multi layers of approvals in order to initiate or change anything. It does not surprise me one bit why they have taken so long to realize that EVs are the future. The truth is they are the complete opposite of nimbleness, they are extremely slow to adapt to change and incapable of embracing new concepts and ideas. At Toyota tradition trumps innovation and they pat themselves on the back for making very minor improvements in the same system over long periods of time for which they call it "Kaizen". Kaizen means continuous improvement in Japanese. They had the nerves to put up Kaizen signs everywhere except they never welcomed any feedback from employees. Anyone below director level is just a peasant in their eyes and not worthy of any input. Whenever I brought up any suggestions to improve a process, the answer I got was always: "that's just not how we do things here" This goes far beyond just Toyota, it's a system of belief that is deeply rooted in the Japanese culture about respecting your elders, quietly following orders and never defying or dare questioning anything any superior tells you. This is the POLAR OPPOSITE of Tesla's company culture! I could literally write a whole book on this. Anyway, the bottom line is I can't wait to see how this plays out and watch this dinosaur empire crumble to pieces.
