My brain is too small to time the market. Yours probably is too.

I love you all,

I agree that timing the market is a losers game. However if you know how to recognize a volatile stock from a non volatile stock and you understand how to recognize a larger number from a smaller number, then you can trade around a core position and grow your holding. Back when Tesla was non volatile and fairly flat, I sold covered calls every week and grew my share holding with the cash profits. When Tesla became very volatile I sold a small portion of my balance and then because it trades volatile, bought it back when it fell off. Sometime I held for a month and sometimes it took several months. This is not timing but rather recognizing how the stock moves. Tesla today continues to be very volatile. So trading around a growing core position is pretty easy. The last big move I made was during the Musk Twitter buy and bought it all back and then some when the stock was below $110. Even then I only traded 15% of my holdings and after waiting nearly 6 months I added quite a few shares to the core position. Being retired I don't have other income so this is how I grew my shares in Tesla & Apple are my major holdings.

Solid advice SMR. There are pathways of success. Great to call attention to well worn paths to nearly guaranteed profits.
