You know that story started off as Krish and Aaron and we're seeing the stronger intro of Damien and Dylan. There is of course a lot of story to unfold, but I'm just curiously wondering if the author is letting the story and even the fan ships influence the story a little? Like maybe there's still some chance there's a final way down the track Dylan/Aaron and Krish/(reformed) Damien. I think any author will tell you that even the best laid plans can alter even a little to the whims of the characters writing their own plot lines, so to speak. Anyway, just hypothesizing. It's a new year and anything's possible.
