Awesome! I’m doing a celebratory instagram post for this release. It’s the first album that I heard from you guys and it blows my mind to this day! Glad to have heard about you guys in some online article

Dan Schieffer

Citadel was the first full album I heard from you guys (id heard Forget Not and Xenoflux prior but not Portal in its entirety) and it blew me away! The whole thing is a gem but Pyrrhic is probably my favorite on it.. and finally I’d say i enjoy it just as much as Urn.. and Portal for that matter.. they’re all amazing just in their own way... everything you guys do is a masterpiece! Thank you guys for creating such art! Hope the tour has been good so far! Looking forward to seeing you guys next week

Citadel is still my favourite album. Will never grow tired of it ... never ever! :D

Andreas De Bondt

Citadel remains my favorite even though Portal and Urn are amazing as well. Citadel was the first Ne Obliviscaris record I have listened after seeing you at Graspop.

Patt Meterson

Citadel was an exciting record to get to play right away. There was so much hype for the band at the time with the crowd funding campaign being so successful and the anticipation of what could come after Portal. In contrast to the new record, I'm happy to have Urn available to me but given all of the hard times that have come up this year for the band, I'm finding it harder to get into the new material. But, I think I will like it more and more with time. Glad to see you guys are still doing amazing work and I can't wait to see you soon on your US tour.

the Benno

Managed to get a vinyl copy of this one.

This is my favorite album, and there's one reason for that: Painters of the Tempest is my absolutely favorite song ever.

I love all three of your albums but citadel is the beat of your work. For as long as I can remember, ...and justice for all by Metallica was my favourite album and one was always my favourite song. But after hearing citadel and listening to It almost non stop for months after it came out I knew I had found a new favourite. I still listen to it all the time, even after 3 years. Thanks for putting out such an incredible record \m/

Master Piece. Life Changing. First heard it on Youtube in preparation for Tuska 2015. It was like nothing I had ever heard before. "Holy shit, this is crazy! I didn't know music like this existed! Must see them live!!!!". It's not a collection of songs that can be listened to sperately, but one musical piece that needs to be listened to in it's entirety. But my favourite song is and always will be "Pyrrhic" because the middle part always break my heart. Always. A glimpse of hope and then utter despair.

Honestly I have not been a fan for a long time--I only just started seriously listening to your music a little over a month ago, though I had been hearing good things about you guys for quite some time before. For me Citadel is a unique album, hauntingly beautiful--I was instantly sucked in the moment I heard those first few notes of Painters of the Tempest. I've been listening to every album what feels like non-stop, and loving each one for what it has to offer, but I think Citadel is my current favorite out of all three albums. Devour Me, Colossus (Part I): Blackholes is my favorite track on the album, and coupled with part II is an absolute feast for the ears. Citadel is an album I know for sure that I will enjoy and treasure for years and years to come.

Andrew Williams

Its a flawless album. Absolute perfection :)

Citadel is an important album in my life. I was expecting something similar to Portal of I for your second release but this was just so different: more technical, dark and flowed like one beautiful masterpiece. I probably listened to Citadel at least once a day before Intra Venus was released. It's such a pleasure to see you guys evolve and take your signature sound in different directions. Though I think Urn is better, Citadel will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope you guys make album no. 4 a concept album. You guys excel at it.

"Citadel" is currently my favourite album, "Painters of the Tempest" being an unsurpassed masterpiece IMO. First time I heard it I was intrigued, and amazed. Feels longer than only 3 years ago though!

Kristin Owsley

After listening to Citadel many times, immersing myself into every instrument , vocal, rhythm, note, over and over, I emerged with PhD in music. It may be akin to Borknagar's Urd. They will always be amazing. But there will never be another Urd. I feel the same may apply here. The Urn songs you played last night were mind blowing live. Nothing beats live.

Matthew Longerbeam

It's my favorite of the current 3. I can't seem to get it out of my head after 2 years of listening to it almost every day. Devour Me, Colossus in particular keeps me coming back every time. I think that song is the best to hear live too, it just hits all of the right spots. The guitar tone is excellent as well. Their are certain parts of the album where I really feel like I'm sitting in the middle of the stage hearing everything performed live with crystal clear audio. Xen's lyrics are so awesome too. It's so easy to get immersed in the world he's created.

Hilal Diker

URN is a masterpiece but so are the others!! I first heard Citadel a few years ago when my brother was blasting it from his room. I would get worried because whenever the music was louder than the thoughts in our head, it meant he was in some kind of self harm episode. But I remember freaking out and going into his room ready to do whatever I could to stop him but instead I just see him sitting at his desk with his hands covering his eyes and just really simply listening to “Pyrrhic”. Ever since that day I fell in love with this band because seeing my brother be in a state where he was completely captivated by music meant everything to me. To this day, that song is still my favorite, and this band means more to me than anything. There are no ranks, no words to ever describe the amount of respect and happiness these albums have given me. You’ve truly shown me the feeling of being alive. Always, endlessly, thank you.

I came across NeO when this album was released and it blew me away, I think I heard a single on youtube and it was instantly captivating, but still very complex! Then I went back and listened to Portal of I and I was like "these guys are going places!!" Bought both on vinyl. I always play the entire albums.

Aaron Oosterhoff

I think I like Portal of I more than Citidel but thats hard to say because Citidel is very refined and you can tell its a big improvement in the finishing and fluidity, but theres also that raw-ness on Portal of I right? Like The Aurora Veil is interesting to listen to in contrast with Portal of I because Xen and Tim sing things differently and pronounce things differently. Urn, I'm still listening to, I love Neo albums because you have to listen to them MANY times before fully understanding and apprecitaing them.

Luke Duncan

Each album stands alone as a moment in time in Ne Obliviscaris' progression and with each album you see added musical maturity, which adds to the complexity of the music being produced. But to Citadel..I find it hard to pick a favourite song as each song plays a part in the overall album and they way it progresses and they are all brilliant. But to pick one,I'd have to say Pyrrhic. It's the perfect mix of harsh metal and mellower contemplative music. But in saying that I also just listened to Devour Me Colossus (Part I):Blackholes and that would have to be almost equally brilliant.

I loved Citadel when I first listened to it. Blackholes captured me, then Triptych Lux held me prisoner. It was the first album I had ever heard from you guys, and I immediately fell in love with your music. Then the same friends who told me to check out Citadel pointed me to Portal of I, and I was a lost cause. Portal remained on repeat for six months, at least, with Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise burning a groove in my brain. I can’t even tell you how excited I was when Urn was announced. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. It’s its own entity, and begs to be listened to from start to finish. (On repeat.) Portal of I is still my favorite, but Urn is a fantastic beast. Citadel was the perfect gateway for me, and will always hold a special place in my musically-obsessed heart.

Citadel is a truly phenomenal album. I first heard it almost two years ago and fell in love with it, but not immediately. As with all of your music, I need to spend some time with it before I appreciate all it has to offer. I actually hated "Urn, Pat II" when you first released it. I thought you guys dropped the ball with that one, but now that I have been listening to it for a while, it may actually be my favorite song on Urn, although, "Eyrie" has been stuck in my head for a full day now. Even when I'm listening to other music I can feel "Eyrie's" tentacles reaching into my ears. This just demonstrates how your songs can continue to evolve within my own head, which is perhaps what makes Ne Obliviscaris so special; the complexity and depth of your music allows me (and all your fans) to enjoy it in many different ways for a long time. The songs from Portal of I certainly have the same effect, but it does lack a bit of the maturity that is present on both Citadel and Urn. It is still a fantastic album and I would have to say that "Forget Not" and "Icicles" are my favorites from it. Getting back to Citadel, "Devour Me, Colossus Part I" is my favorite song...ever, from any band that I have heard thus far. Thank you for all that you do and I cannot wait to hear the live show in a few weeks time. Take care!

Really like the whole citadel concept thing. There's a lot of parts I love in this album. In Painters of the tempest part 2, I like the ending part of Creator, especially the Xens scream. In Curator, The guitar and violin leading up to Tim singing “RADIaNCe”… so beautiful, and when it plays in the car while driving into a sunrise/dawn no words to describe it. In Pyrrhic, I LOVE the build up part, starting with the guitar at 5:20. The guitar going silent clearing my mind, and with each drum the walls of my citadel crack and crumble, with the violin my walls become dust carried off by the gentlest breeze, With Xen’s scream all walls are breached, my mind goes numb and my heart burst out this mix of emotions. Watery eyes and joy is how this one ends. “Blackholes” grew on me HARD. Love the lyrics “scent of the earth, touch of the light, here, where colours collide this blackhole ignites my world in bloom my world in bloom IN BLOOM...Love singing that part, especially the “blooOOOoOOOOM” in the end. Even tough I'm a horrible singer XD I just pretend I'm Tim haha

Aaron Oosterhoff

The thing I really don't like about Urn is that it's only 46 minutes! lol

Hilal Diker

Lol thank you so much it was so awesome meeting you all in person!! And I wish it was a flat it was the stupid brakes 😭 lolol 🤘🏻🤘🏻

I find it interesting how everything has played out. Portal was like a rainbow of themes and tones. It’s like y’all put everything out there on the first outing. And now with each new album, all of those possibilities that were presented in Portal are being explored, intricately and beautifully. Citadel was cold and haunting, yet beautiful. Urn is warm and hopeful, yet dark and menacing. I can’t wait to see what themes the next album explores! All in all, I didn’t think anything could ever top Painters of the Tempest...and then I heard Eyrie, the greatest damn song ever made.
