Really excited to see the choices - there have been some AMAZING albums released this year. Excited to see what's popular here! 2020 syndrome hit hard for me, looking at albums I was sure dropped last year only to find out they indeed came out in 2020.

Brian McMahon

Glow by Countless Skies definitely has the top spot for me.

Brian McMahon

Also Rise Radiant by Caligula's Horse is up there

Anyone have any good recommendations before I put my list in, I’ve been really out of the loop this year. Core, death, prog, black, non-metal I don’t really care what genre, if you think it’s good send it

Ryan

Havukruunu - Uinuos Syömein Sota. Incredible melodic black metal with killer riffs and solos

Johan Klovsjö

My list is more like the tops of several metal genres I listen to, because I want to get a lot of different stuff in there. There was just so much new music for me this year though, and new bands! The top spots are bands you'd recognise, and then a few lesser known ones. Curious to see the finished list, and hopefully Tim and Xen's lists as well.

My recommendations for metal albums are the new releases by Pain of Salvation, Haken, Legeia Wept, Oceans of Slumber, The Ocean and Orbit Culture. And for non-metal: Lazuli, Lucid Planet, The Sounds, Lunatic Soul and Dool (yes, with a D😉)

Alex Schroeder

So far Rise Radiant is my clear favorite, but I'll be looking through suggestions here with great interest 🤘

João Eiras

Oh, did not know Mors released something.

Trey Weddle

I can't really choose a favorite, but Dark Tranquility - Moment has been a really good one that hasn't been posted here.

Since we seem to have quite a few bands in common, I'd recommend Angellore's "Rien Ne Devait Mourir". They're a French Gothic/doom metal band (but sing mostly in English), and this album is by far their absolute best one to date! It puts their others to a horrible shame. It's just overall beautiful, from voices to lyrics to the story it tells. They have a violinist, and I think feature an oboist and cellist if I'm not mistaken. Just...just check them out if you're ever in the mood for melancholic, autumnal beauty.

I had no idea the album was out😱, listening immediately

Christoph Klein

Talal

Odraza - Rzeczom would be my No.1 for sure

Luke Cowley

The Ocean's new album is sooooo good. One of my favs. Katatonia also has a super good album out. Aviations has a new EP thats pretty insane. Lots and lots of great albums I can't think of right now.

Eva

Too tired to write it all down, so only Band names: Apocalyptica, Ihsahn, Paradise Lost, Enslaved, Omega Infinity, Long Distance Calling, Ulver, Anaal Nathrakh, Heaven Shall Burn, Gaerea. I have been listening to a lot more podcasts this year, so I haven’t been listening to music that much. Also I got pulled back into listening to old albums or nothing at all. Strange year..,

Eva

Now after I voted I saw that Kaunis Kuolematon has released a new album on Nov. 27th, which is really my cup of tea... also the new Dark Tranquility is pretty good. Oh well, it is what it is...

Noam Barnea

+ albums from 2019 because I want to :P Warforged - I. Voice - phenomenal. prog death metal I would say. Amanda Palmer - There Will Be No Intermission - unbelievably emotional, raw, unapologetic. not metal :)
