Tim recalls the day they realised they could play with a bunch of prog (non-metal bands) and not get booed off the stage!

Hearing about the history of it all is amazing. If I missed it mentioned before, I hope one day there is a book about NeO’s history titled “Forget Not” and each of your roles into getting everything started, how it all evolved, it would be so wonderful to read!! with maybe artwork by Xen and never before seen musical notes/lyrics?? Lol 😄 Thank you for sharing, Tim! I think in a perfect tour, I would love to see NeO tour with Alcest, Diary of Dreams and Sad Legend (unrealistic but ☺️)

Woah, I'd completely forgotten about Ozprog! I was at a show many years ago (G3 in 2006 or something, maybe earlier) and this guy came up to me before it started and said, "Cool shirt!" I thought he was referring to the one in my hand, which was a G3 tour shirt that I'd just purchased. So I gave him directions to the merch booth...only for him to clarify that he meant the Dream Theater shirt I was wearing. I guess that made more sense. So anyway, we got talking and he mentioned that he was a fellow poster on the Mike Portnoy forum (which I used to visit regularly as it was a great source for discovering new music etc.). If I remember correctly, his name was Brad Dixon and he was one of the founders of Ozprog, a website and forum he recommended I check out. Back then, I wasn't particularly interested in Australian music so it didn't appeal to me a great deal. But I admired what he and his partner were doing with it all. I later read about the two guys in an article in which they mentioned a bunch of Aussie bands like Karnivool etc. and how there was a growing prog/prog metal scene in this country which they were keen to promote and support. It would take me a few more years before I started to explore it though and began to find local music that resonated with me... And, yep, it seems Ozprog is no longer! I wonder what happened. Maybe they just didn't have time anymore or their personal circumstances changed. Whatever the case, I always admired their passion for the local prog scene, even if it wasn't all to my liking. In terms of NeO touring with another interesting band that might not be expected, how about Anathema? Given they've gone on an indefinite hiatus, it's pretty unlikely. But the pairing might actually work - both bands are able to create unique atmospheres with dynamic mood shifts.

To keep it short, see you guys in Porto, Portugal touring with Enslaved. I could throughout a bunch of different bands but I’ll stick with them as the perfect duet with NeO.🤘

Anarmir

Yay DoD!!

I would like to see you guys tour with Beast in Black. They are power metal but their sound is unique and different from a typical power metal band. In no way is their sound comparable to you guys but i think the diversity in their songs would make them an interesting band to tour with. Or perhaps Witherfall.

So many great bands. Can't recall which was the first progfest I attended, but saw and enjoyed Mushroom Giant and State of Flux at least a couple of times!

Eva

Alcest would be in my choice too.

Tina

Poor Xen, must have felt lost at Prog Fest.... Stranger in a strange land.... What bands to tour with that are NOT obvious and different to you?🤔 All bands are different to NeO....🤷‍♀️ As support I'd say Amorphis or Satyricon or Dimmu Borgir. As Co-Headliner maybe Draconian, Harakiri for the Sky, Empyrium (!) or Borknagar. But most of all I'd like to see you as headliner, so I'd suggest as support for you Heretoir, Nailed to Obscurity ot Décembre Noir, all relatively small, but up and coming very good bands from Germany.

Eva

what Tina said, and I also like to throw in here Alcest, Swallow The Sun, Moonsorrow, Rotting Christ or Kaunis Kuolematon

Ghostemane x NeO tour 2022 👀😂 On a more realistic note though, would love to see a bill with NeO, White Ward, Carach Angren and Septicflesh

Larry and his Flask. Pretty realistic in my opinion. They're prog bluegrass. They have moshing at their shows and everything. And God dang, those dudes are talented. They each play two instruments.
