Bethany

Umm. Can I even get to 5, let alone 10? 🤣

Brian McMahon

For anyone who might be struggling to find 10 bands, here's a list of some bands that put out an album this year. They're in no particular order. Archspire, Omnium Gatherum, Leprous, Gojira, Sion, Chevelle, Soen, In mourning, At the gates, Rivers of nihil, Belakor, Harakiri for the sky

Noam Barnea

My current contenders for "Best of January-to-November 2021": Jinjer, Between the buried and me, Spiritbox, Abiotic, Epica, Diablo swing orchestra, Bent knee, Archspire, Slaughter to prevail, Lingua ignota, Rivers of nihil. bonus: Lorna shore

Dina

I guess that Leprous could be number 1 this year, Aphelion is a masterpiece 😍 Besides those already mentioned, here are some more recommendations: Imminence (they also have a violinist in the band!), Thy Catafalque, 1914, Cân bardd, The Paradox Twin, Acolyte, Twelve foot ninja, The Stranger, Gojira, Tribulation, Night Crowned, Sullivan King, Fuath, Mechina, Silver Lake, VOLA and White Moth Black Butterfly

A Bear

ah heck how did I forget Lingua Ignota

Laurie Andrews

I'm voting for Swallow the Sun & Be'lakor. Going to see STS tonight actually.

Michael Bednowicz

Ooh. I didn't know In Mourning had a new album. That's a blind buy for me.

Brandon Klemets

Deafheaven is the perfection of their new sound. I wish Leprous's new album was the same for them but I couldnt enjoy a single song on it. Boiling it down to 10 was so hard and wish it was double.

Alex Schroeder

Currently my AOTY is Vildhjarta's Masstaden Under Vatten. BTBAM and Hippotraktor are both up there. Trying to fill out the other 7 now... Edit: Spotify Wrapped reminding me Humanity's Last Breath was this year (and fantastic). 6 to go!

Sarah Yucel

1 Lord of the Lost - Judas 2 Swallow the Sun - Moonflowers 3 Leprous - Aphelion 4 Moonspell - Hermitage 5 Witherfall - Curse of Autumn 6 IOTUNN - Access All Worlds 7 In Mourning - The Bleeding Veil 8 Lake of Tears - Ominous 9 Be’lakor - Coherence 10 Legions of the Night - Sorrow Is The Cure These ones ended up as favorite albums 2021- And waiting for the final result/playlist is always exciting!

Daniel Boulet

I didn’t even realize that STS’s new album was out. Listening now.

Eva

I realized I listened to a lot of old and non metal stuff I this year. If I get to 5 new albums it‘ll be good 😅
