Tim Comments:

"It was actually the instrumental version of this song, Misericorde, that first gave me the idea of creating an instrumental mix as a bonus track for 'Exul'. Whilst mixing the album with Mark Lewis in mid 2022, we spent quite a lot of time mixing the entirety of Misericorde as an instrumental first. This was to ensure everything else was working well. Misericorde is quite different to the rest of the album as it has a lot more string layers, some mixed in totally different ways to the rest of the string parts on the album. With such an array of different sounds and moods throughout, this was what Mark Lewis felt was the best way to approach mixing the song. It is of course quite common for producers to mix the vocals last, but normally in our songs the vocals would be brought in to the mix once everything else was roughly in place. But for Misericorde we basically created a final instrumental mix of the full 17 minute version before we even added the vocals!

During this process, I became really excited by how much I was enjoying the instrumental version. As of course, I knew that once Xen & my vocals got added in it would become ever better! But noting how much this version of the song had to offer was the initial inspiration to sharing it with each of you here.

Originally we were just going to do a bonus track of Misericorde (Instrumental Mix) but in late 2022 we asked Mark Lewis if he could create instrumental versions for all 6 tracks on EXUL instead.

What stands out to you listening to this version of the song?"
