I'm participating in a group show coming up, where the theme is "Toys"!
I haven't had a lot of time to make large works or even many small ones, but here is the process for one painting I just finished, out of the two that I'm planning on completing.

I thrifted this yellow frame back in 2020, my phone tells me!

I really love the yellow matte board it came with, but the window was quite small so I decided to cut around it in order to paint a bigger artwork.
Luckily I own a matte board cutter, which makes a 45degree blade incision.

I measured the new window dimension and made a sketch of the painting in procreate, which I printed out and used a lightbox to trace over on the paper I would be painting on.

During the painting process, I used the yellow matte board as a reference to pick colours. The "artwork" includes the matte board and the frame itself, so the colours needed to work together with the frame.

And here it is, finished!

Sasha

i know your style is not realistic but not doing any shade difference on the palm does look a bit caricature-like considering its a presumably black subject?

Hi sasha, like you’ve said my art is on the non-realistic side so my depictions are always going to lean that way. However if you’ve noticed that not including the pigment-difference is weird then you’re probably right and others will have the same opinion too. Unfortunately I can’t rework on this specific piece because it’s already nailed and taped into the frame, but I will keep what you’ve pointed out in mind going forward from now. Thank you. (A side note- I was imagining a South Asian or Pacifica subject since they’re more part of my life and community around where I live.)
