Hey friends!

I’ve been receiving a lot of questions from beginner artists lately, which has inspired me to start a new series on common mistakes that newbies often make. I’ll be sharing some quick tips to help enhance your technique. Today, we’re exploring how to achieve those smooth, seamless gradients with markers.🤗

✔️ Ever felt frustrated with your markers? Many artists are excited to use them, buy them, and then feel let down when they can’t achieve that beautiful gradient effect. If you’ve been there, you’re definitely not alone 😕🤔.

❓ What’s the issue? Often, it’s about not getting those seamless gradients, especially with brush tip markers. You might notice that color transitions aren’t smooth and boundaries are still visible, which can be confusing. Sound familiar? Let’s break down what might be going wrong and how to fix it 🙃.

💡 The key mistake: Treating the marker like an ordinary felt-tip pen, with consistent pressure throughout the process of coloring. Try this technique instead:

✴️ Smooth but Sharp Strokes: Apply the most pressure when the marker first touches the paper. This creates a strong initial mark.

✴️ Lift Off Smoothly: Lift the marker off the paper in a smooth but quick motion to create tapered, light strokes.

✴️ Layering for Gradients: Use two markers close in tone to build up that beautiful gradient effect 👌👐.

🖍️ Paper Matters: Remember, the type of paper you use makes a big difference. Always test your paper before diving into any important artwork.

If you have any questions or need more tips, let me know in the comments 👐.

Happy coloring and see you in the next post!
