Discovering Your Unique Drawing Style: Tips and Insights (Patreon)

Hello, friends! I often get asked this question: "I love the way you draw. How did you find your style?" Well, discovering my own drawing style was a personal and creative journey that didn't happen overnight. It required a lot of time and experimentation. I wanted to share these tips with you in case you are still searching for your own unique style.
💜 Explore different styles: Begin by studying and exploring various drawing styles. Take a look at different artists' works, both traditional and contemporary, in mediums like painting, sketching, digital art, and more. Pay attention to techniques, lines, shapes, colors, and the overall aesthetic appeal. Take note of what resonates with you and what you find visually appealing.
🧡Experiment with different mediums: Try working with various art mediums such as pencils, pens, charcoal, watercolors, acrylics, or digital tools. Each medium possesses its own unique qualities that can influence your artistic style. Experimenting with different tools and techniques is what helped me the most. I started my art journey with colored pencils. Different materials can help you discover what you enjoy working with and what best expresses your artistic vision.
💛Practice regularly: Consistent practice is crucial for developing your skills and refining your style. Set aside dedicated time for drawing regularly, even if it's just a few minutes each day. The more you draw, the better you'll understand your preferences and strengths as an artist. I'd rather draw for 5 minutes every day than draw for an hour but only once a week.
💙Experiment with different subject matters: Try drawing a variety of subjects, such as food, pets, portraits, or abstract concepts. Experimenting with different subject matters can help you explore different ways of depicting forms and develop your own interpretation and representation of objects.
💚Reflect on your influences: Take some time to reflect on the artists who have influenced you. Consider the elements of their styles that resonate with you the most. Think about how you can incorporate those elements into your own work while adding your personal touch and unique perspective.
💗Be patient and persistent: Developing a unique drawing style takes time, so be patient with yourself. It's normal for your style to evolve and change over time as you continue to grow as an artist. Stay persistent, keep experimenting, and trust the process.
I hope these tips help you on your journey to finding your own drawing style. Enjoy the process and keep expressing yourself through your art!
