My first ever lyric video. Made in iMovie with a small bit made in Procreate Dream to get around some of the limitations of iMovie's title templates. It's been a learning experience and I found a whole new set of limitations and scary behaviors that I will need to work around. "Sleeping, Not Drowning" is a track I wrote during February Album Writing Month 2023 with the intent of writing a lost 1980s FM rock song. Since February Album Writing Month is all about getting 14 songs written in the shortest month of the year, I had very limited time to learn to play the song and record it on a TASCAM DP-006 digital 4-track recorder. Since I struggled with the vocals, I asked for help from another FAWMer, and Andrew Russell answered the call. They delivered a lead vocal and backing vocals, fixing up the melodies so they actually worked. You can find Andrew on YouTube at @AndrewRussellBand and on https://ajrussell.ca . This video mix was made after FAWM. I told Andrew I wasn't going to mess with the audio, but I wanted to get the vocals in front more compared to the original FAWM mix, and then I wanted to fix the very worst of the mistakes in the original tracks (I don't mind a FAWM recording being rough and ready, but there are limits), and add some synths (the instrumental break now has a sample from She's No God by my former band The Hooded Crow, mangled beyond recognition. You can find She's No God at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx3S2kEfr_o but don't expect to recognize the sampled section) and a quick guitar solo just to indicate that there was a spot where a guitar solo needed to go. As with the track "Chant", I wanted to, and still want to, make a fully animated video but I'm nowhere near where I need to be on the animation and video making learning curve to do that well. So for now, in anticipation of the next February Album Writing Month, here's a lyric video, with some of the bits that will end up in the animated video whenever I'm ready.
