I explain it all in the video. Please watch it if you are voting so that you can hear the pros and cons of each option!

Video Link: https://youtu.be/3PA8Ks1QKzU

Option 1: Might, Agility, Charisma, Intelligence

There are the current names of the Attributes in DC20

Option 2: Strength, Dexterity, Charisma, Intelligence

These are the "main stream" conversions from D&D 5e

Option 3: New names entirely

THIS... makes me nervous but I wanted to have this here in case nobody liked either option above. I would go down the rabbit hole of names and see where we eneded up.

I just think "might" is a better representative of str plus con.

Grand Old Dwarf

I liked the Mind attribute, but you brought up a good point about abbreviated attribute names and having two that start with "Mi" could be confusing.

Grand Old Dwarf

If we go with new names, then Brawn/Agility/Mind/Presence might be a good option. I'm not sold on "Presence", but it definitely isn't associated with physical appearance which is what some players think about for Charisma.

DMTip

Str/Dex flow better for folks coming from D&D but Might and Agility are better words and better fit the spirit of DC20 IMO. Also, I don't see anyone being confused about Might/Agility over Str/Dex.

Mortal

I like what we have currently, the only one I would rename is charisma as it's the only one anyone I explain the stats too question. I would say rename it to willpower. But... At this point we might as well change intelligence to mind like GoD mentioned.

Philip Fox

No reason to change. Makes sense to me. It’s ok to be different.

Mortal

It is a new game so why not have new names. I really do like might and agility though.

I like the idea of setting DC20 apart from the existing platforms personally. It has its own mechanics and system that borrows but isnt the same. On that note I personally am the type who wont just say lets do something different with out offering a suggestion! I like Might and Agility for your traditional STR/DEX it is a great broad brush term that doesnt specifically indicate that your strong, or can push/lift things or have great balance or are particularly nimble. Along that vein I would suggest instead of INT something like Mental affinity/accuity... are you smart/wise? For Charisma I have hated this because being charismatic means many things... are you good looking/sneaky/intimidating and able to get your way through that method? Are you a great leader and people naturally follow you, or do you radiate a natural friendliness which draws people to you? Charisma should be more of a description like the rest which then players can say: im a natural born leader, or I have a magnatism about me, or im just DAAAAAAMN SCHMEXY... I would use Presence for Charisma.

I think it is coach and his teams game and trying to make it an “ easier” transition from DND defeats, the purpose of coaches idea of the game that he and his team wants to design and create. I personally feel like we should not worry about what everybody else wants and we worry about what coach wants because it’s his game. And overall I think that you should create the game that you want to create coach. I mean in my opinion and it’s a little forward, but I don’t think you should be designing a game that caters to what everybody else wants. I personally think that you should design the game that you want to design because it’s your game and if you want to switch the stats, because you want it to be easier for people who are going to transition from DND to it that’s great but that’s assuming that everyone is going to transition from DND5E at the end of the day you should be designing what you want to design and how you want it to work and although I do appreciate the fact that you want to involve your community in that it is still ultimately your game and you should go with what you want to do. Sorry I kind of repeated myself.

Cybinja

Using broad brush names allows the player to interpret what that stat means for them while following a rough guideline.

Philip Fox

I second Presence in place of Charisma.

Tabletop Phoenix

As a Quality Assurance Specialist, naming conventions follow the convention of 1. What best represents what you're trying to say. 2. What's the most commonly used word. Might is absolutely better than Strength because it's more than just Strength. It's your overall toughness as well. Agility is a more commonly used term than Dexterity, outside or TTTPGS. Intelligence is not an accurate representation of what it is. TTRPG players ague, "What about Wisdom". I would say that a better word to use here is Insight. But what about the skill. Easy, that's Intuition. Charisma, is already perfect. Why mess with it.

DrFumbles

I like the physical stats as they are in DC20 as Might and Agility. I think Intelligence is fine, and I agree with several other people that Presence is better instead of Charisma.

Dastyni

Might, Agility, and Intelligence really highlight how you are moving through the world and how they might BE your Prime attribute. Stick with those. For Charisma... It comes across as only looks/charm. I think Panache is a better fit with the other attribute names. AND, I think most people have a better picture of that special flair of personality that Panache evokes, as opposed to, "hey I have a nice smile or can seduce you" that is generally equated to Charisma. Panache makes sense to be a prime attribute and how you might use it in combat. I think people struggle seeing how charisma would fit that roll.

Avecar

I agree that newer naming isn’t a must have, but a why not. Then have your poll based on the original base terms and the new ones with full explanations. Acuity and Presence are great, I think. Might and Agility are already strong. You’re already similar to many of the same concepts as 5e, but the refinement is all YOU. They’ve had years to think outside the box and have taken small steps. PS: Consider making the Monk moves based off of unique DC20 monsters/animals versus standard animal references that everyone uses. Use your creativity as a strength and even tease what the names might reference in books to come. We trust you, Coach.

Meowity Meowster

I do think Intelligence sounds more specific than it seems to be used for; was thinking "Wits" or something, but the rest are good as they are, and even Intelligence is fine. Might and Agility are better words for the slightly more broad usage than D&D's Strength and Dexterity.

Lunchbox

I think the key thing is you should either make them all like DnD or all not like DnD. I'd actually recommend making them all not since Charisma kind of includes some aspects of wisdom, really. I saw GrandOldDwarf post, Smarts and Presence in place of Intel and Charisma in the hatchery channel, and I tend to agree with that take.

Albastine

I'm with what pocket dimension on one of their videos on this one. Don't make it more complicated for people from 5e if you don't have to. Let's be honest, they are the same thing. It's less mental overhead.

FanboyKC

I just changed my vote to 3. Might/Agility/Smarts/Influence Thoughts?

David

Might, Agility, Presence/Will, Understanding/Reason

Dustin Swalley

I like all of them except dexterity. Dexterity always sounded "physical" where something like "reflexes" sounds like it also covers mentally

Collin Pretty

Definitely keep "Might" and "Agility". They make perfect sense to me without having to include the comparison to D&D. I think there comes a point where you have to trust the players to re-learn what certain words mean in a new context. Like you said, DC 20 is a different game, there are lots of different games, and some of them use might and agility. I think they make perfect sense in the context of the game that you are creating. I do however like some of the suggestions for changing Intelligence, but I'm sure that's a hole that's been dug well before you brought up this pole to us.

Brian Burns

Keep might and agility, but change the mental stats name. As others have said do all your own or do all 5e, but not a mixture. Mind and presence sound great to me.

George LaTourette

I agree that like the rest of DC20, we should ditch the D&D naming conventions altogether. Personally I like Might, Agility, Presence (the ability to project your charisma and personality), and Mind (the ability to best use your mental faculties).
