Update #478 (Patreon)
Content
Ok. So.
I'll probably get back in the swing of things with Patreon stuff in the next week or so. There's just a ton of client work I've gotta catch up on, while still moving stuff. Life is just kinda crazy right now and will be until probably the beginning of November, but I should be able to start fitting patron stuff back into my schedule in the next week-ish, hopefully!
Truth of the matter is, while I love all my $10 patrons and absolutely do not want to discourage anyone from being one (obviously :P), it is very tough to do more than 3 songs a month (as I'm sure you've noticed). I usually have a LOT of other commitments, most of which I have to prioritize over the Patreon stuff, unfortunately.
That being said, probably what's going to happen is, if there are more than 3 requests a month (which is already really likely), the rest will probably be on a waiting list (which is essentially what is already happening).
Really though, the culprit of this is that I may need to change up the rules a bit on $10 patron requests, as I did make it very general which is my doing and it's totally all good, but--assuming I knew my audience (oops. don't assume.)--I honestly was thinking I'd get more requests pertaining to things like "write in the style/genre of [blank]" or "make a song that would work in [insert some style of game world/level]". It's turned out to be more remixing stuff than anything. Again, perfectly fine because I never said any different, but it does make me realize I probably need to reevaluate the situation and make some changes.
Remixing things is oftentimes not very inspiring for me and kinda has to be a specific piece, and so unfortunately I am spending a lot of brain power on something that, well, for lack of better words, sometimes isn't totally worth the hassle. Your guys' support is crazy amazing and I can't thank you enough (seriously, I know I say it all the time but it blows my mind there are people that want to support me and my work), but between this and all my other work, I really have to make some decisions on what I really want to put my focus on, longterm, or if what I'm working on is going to be worth it longterm (or is helping me get there, if that makes sense).
With that in mind, don't think I'm going to ditch the remaining four $10 patron requests I have in queue at the moment. I'm still working on them and will finish them, regardless of what I may need to change with the system as a whole.
If this drives a lot of people away, I just want to say I'm really truly sorry. Through doing Patreon I've learned a lot about what does and doesn't work and I think I may just be spreading myself too thin here and need to rethink some thangs. I DO NOT plan on dropping $10 patron requests as a whole; I may just need to get a bit more specific with what can be requested, if you catch my drift.
All of that now said, I want to remind those of you who simply are here to support and do not care for the perks (and it's perfectly fine if you're here for the perks; that's why they're there!), you can still be patron without signing up for the perks. You can be a $1, $3, $5, or $10 patron without having any of the perks, if you don't care for them and just want to support.
Ultimately, I am super grateful for you guys and do not want it to seem like I'm taking you for granted, and if anything, the support here helps make other things outside of Patreon possible. The more support, the better. Since YouTube, ya know, just doesn't really pay. Like anything. Covers my groceries I guess? Nice bonus check. Lol.
Anyway, if you made it down to the bottom here, thanks for reading, I'm very sorry if this ruins things or makes you want to drop your patronage.
TL;DR - for the most part, the overall system is not changing and I'll be back up and running in hopefully the next week or so. But some specifics are changing, mainly for $10 patrons, in terms of what they can request and how many will be finished each month.
'Preciate your guys' support a crapton and I'm honestly honored. Thanks for sticking with me and for your patience. You're the real deal. See you soon! PEACE
