Because of my current comm project, I hardly have time to make progress on my projects.

Well, I made progress on Nicole's Nasty Job, but it was mostly technical stuff, like code fixes and some gameplay design.I mean, they're not really interesting to look at. I could probably show a screenshot of my screen, and it'll look boring lol

However, the Nude Byte project has some interesting things:

This is one of the planned Bytes (if I get the chance), called "TLDR". Her function is to give other Bytes impenetrable shields until she's destroyed. Interestingly, I had thought of this enemy before Splatoon Raiders came out and introduced one of their new enemies that functions practically the same way: protecting other enemies. I blame myself for being waaaay too slow with these projects. Regardless, it's quite a common function anyway. Mine was actually inspired by the Medic from Team Fortress 2, which is why she looks like a doctor lol

I actually had another idea at one point, but I ultimately discontinued it. They were just doodles before, but I decided to clean them a bit and color them. They're called "Read-Only Bytes".

They're special versions of the Gigabytes, except they have reskinned designs and they don't die. They persist in the arena to ruin your game, and all you can do is avoid them.

I was inspired by VTubers at the time, so I tried making these Read-Only Gigabytes designed as VTubers. The sketches above show the following:

Taiga-Tan as the Gigabyte "Spammer"

Mara Evantree as the Gigabyte "Keyboard Warrior"

Sinder as the Gigabyte "Impersonator"

Wolfcat Risi as the Gigabyte "Basher"

What I planned was to run monthly special challenges where one VTuber temporarily replaces the Goddesses and challenges players to fight them.

It sounds nice and ambitious, but I had to discontinue this idea after contemplating it later on and found several issues:

From a marketing point-of-view:

Collabs like this work because both sides want to advertise to the other side's audience, which sadly doesn't work here.

The problems are: I only know small-time VTubers, Nude Byte isn't a popular game, and I'm broke. (Sinder is probably the only VTuber I know who's popular lol) One side should benefit from the advertising, which ultimately doesn't work here.

I could help small-time VTubers by advertising them with my game, but my game isn't popular. I could approach big-time VTubers to advertise my game, but I'm broke for contracts like that.

From a design point-of-view:

I'd have to butcher their designs to simplify them and make them cartoony enough to fit the "Bytes" art style, which I don't think most VTubers will agree to. Not to mention, they will become enemies for players to shoot at lol

VTubers sometimes change their VTuber designs. When this happens, my 3D model of them will become outdated.

If not VTubers, I could probably collab with artists with popular OCs, but I think they too will disagree with me butchering their designs and making them enemies to shoot at lol

From a workload point-of-view:

I will have to make 3D models of each of them, when I could use that effort to make new types of Gigabytes instead.

Unfortunately, they're not only reskins of the designs, but also reworked animations as well to accompany their unique designs.

There were plenty of reasons to discontinue the "Read-Only Bytes" idea. I could probably rework it into something else, but the grand part will most likely be lost... Either way, I'm still not working on Nude Byte right now, so I can't make proper decisions. I'm just showing sketches lol

Anyway, That's all the extras for this month! Look forward to the next monthly polls!

I honestly think most V-tubers would be cool with having their personas in game, but I get why that would be a monetizing nightmare, even if they're indie. Shame too, cause that's such a cool idea!
