In 1958, a section of cliff in Lituya Bay (Alaska) collapsed due to a nearby magnitude earthquake on July 9th. After 31 million cubic meters of rock slid into the bay, it triggered an even larger landslide at the adjacent glacier. This generated the world’s tallest ever tsunami which measured up to 524 m or 1,720 ft tall. If you view the area from satellite, you can still see the tree line which the tsunami went up to.

I had read about this event. I understand that even watching glaciers calve icebergs into a fjord is not without risk, particularly on the west coast of Greenland.

Is this the landslide/tsunami where there was a father and son on a fishing boat and the wave picked them up raised them about 80-100 feet and then the wave miraculously safely dropped the boat far up the shoreline?
