In the past 16 days you might have noted that the majority of my vids included older patreon end graphics. The reason? I was on vacation. I just got back home. I visited numerous volcanoes in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Utah.

4 experiences that really stood out to me.

1) The most breathtaking site was seeing the crater lake caldera in Oregon. The water is so blue due to its depth, and it’s associated cinder cone is absolutely stunning.

2) I had great fun hiking to the Inyo Craters formed by an eruption ~1,000 years ago. These features have a much greater depth than would be expected (depth to width ratio) from a comet/asteroid impact crater.

3) Mount St. Helens. I last visited the volcano in 2008, just a week after it stopped erupting. What used to be a devastated landscape is now covered with 2-3 m tall trees.

4) Craters of the Moon, Idaho. This was a generally fun experience involving unusually spacious lava tubes. Also, at the top of one of the cinder cones the wind speed was ~70 mph. This blew fine ash particles at high speeds, creating a sand blasting type effect on exposed skin. No bleeding was involved, but it was a unique experience.

I will be getting back to work tomorrow, and will be sure to use photos I have taken in my future videos. Expect more / newer images of lava domes, stratovolcanoes, basalt lava flows, dacite, and obsidian!

Craters of the moon sounds intense! I was there with no wind a few years back and felt like I had been through a sandpaper factory

Mount Rainier at Longmire. That drive up to Paradise is amazing.
