I recently received a patreon request to cover my thoughts on the formation of a particular platinum group element deposit. This got me thinking. Should I cover certain areas of the world and explain why each area’s geologic history created various resources? Be it Arizona/Chile for copper, Western Australia for iron, northern Canada for uranium, Democratic Republic of Congo for cobalt (>90% of the world’s supply), and other countless examples. Would this be potentially interesting for my audience? Let me know! The attached photo is a platinum nugget photographed by Chip Clark, Smithsonian Institution, via the U.S. Geological Survey Flickr page, public domain, National Mineral Collection. Very interested in such a series of videos covering these types of deposits

Yes, it would be interesting.

It would be incredibly interesting as those deposits are different than other metal deposits. Many metals form concentrations via hydrothermal fluid deposition. PGE’s generally don’t. They don’t like to dissolve and have higher than normal melting points.
