Sinister Serana and Alcohol (Patreon)
Content
A question has been posed: How does a daughter of Coldharbour view the spirits of Skyrim?
If you’ve played my Siddgeir Jarlologue Add-On, you know I enjoy writing a character who can hold their liquor. But for Serana, the "Sinister" side of her nature is revealed through a subtle, centuries-old deception.
The Biology of a Frozen Soul
Turned at the tender age of eighteen, Serana’s physical and sensory growth hit a permanent standstill. While the rest of Skyrim’s nobility drowns their sorrows in Alto Wine or Black-Briar Mead, Serana is playing a much colder game. To a predator whose world is defined by the rich, copper warmth of fresh blood, alcohol is nothing more than bitter, fermented rot.
The Deadly Evolution of Thought
In her youth, she might have secretly feared she was merely a "milk-drinker," unable to stomach the harsh drafts of her peers. But centuries in the dark have twisted that insecurity into something far more dangerous. She didn't grow out of being a milk-drinker; she evolved into a Blood-Drinker. It isn't a lack of taste. It is a refinement of her status as a high-predator.
"Alcohol? I can tolerate it, if the moment calls for it.. though I’ve never acquired the taste. Bitter, dull; unchanged, no matter how often I try. Then again, some things don’t change with time. My tastes, for instance."
She pauses, a dry, sarcastic smirk playing on her lips.
"My appearance as well, if you hadn’t noticed."
Fun Fact : "Milk Drinker"
In Skyrim, calling someone a "milk-drinker" is a playground insult. For Sinister Serana, it’s a culinary critique.
The Science: Did you know that if you consume enough high-fat dairy, your blood plasma can actually undergo lipemia, turning it a thick, milky white? To a connoisseur of the vein, the term "milk-drinker" isn't a metaphor. it is a description of the texture.
Imagine Serana, with her frozen 18-year-old palate, turning up her nose at a Nord warrior not because he’s weak, but because his blood is literally "cloudy."
"You mortals toss that 'milk-drinker' insult around so casually. You have no idea how literal it is. Drink enough of the white stuff, and your plasma follows suit. It is.. unpalatable. Thick. Cloying. If you’re going to die by my hand, the least you could do is have the decency to stay hydrated with something that doesn't ruin the vintage."
She doesn't need a drink to lose her inhibitions... she lost those ages ago.
