Hey Kids,

The AAF episode has had a few days to marinate, so you can let yourself enjoy these articles where they're just really, really hoping you'll understand that they're great musicians.

Entertainment Weekly: "Meet Alien Ant Farm" (July 24, 2001)

This is the quick EW profile where they call themselves "nu-romantic metal" and of course sneak in a reference to how good they are at playing their instruments.

KindaMuzik: "Alien Ant Farm: Interview" (February 8, 2002)

Who knew this Dutch site would end up being a great source of nu-metal content? This has some of Dryden talking about his folk influences, and how the "Smooth Criminal" cover is impressive because it's a hard song to play, actually.

Hip Online: "Alien Ant Farm--Interview" (October 13, 2003)

In where Dryden admits that lyrics are pretty hard to write (but also very easy) and they discuss the sophomore slump.

Pause and Play: "That Music's Lost Its Taste, So Try Another Flavour: Alien Ant Farm!" (March 4, 2001)

Yes, that is the real title of the article. This is the very fun one where they discuss talking to God and being not a rock star, but a "Rock Guy".

Los Angeles Times: "Catching Up With Alien Ant Farm, Unlikely Distractions During a Week of Doomscrolling" (June 30, 2022)

Dryden gets some shine after AAF goes viral on Twitter 6 weeks ago, and it does appear that he has, in fact, grown up.

bryan

great episode, very weird album. i simultaneously love it but also couldn't tell you what's on it if it wasn't a single or in tony hawk. i can see dryden's folk influence that he reports in a single off the next album, truant. "glow" has a lot of acoustic guitar and a solo that's kind of bluesy. i think bryan was right that smooth criminal ultimately hurt them with how big it got.
