DxO PhotoLab is an award-winning alternative to Adobe Lightroom. I have been using DxO's PureRaw since 2022 in a conjunction with Lightroom so was keen to explore DxO's PhotoLab 8. As a result of my recent poll it appears 79% of my patrons are currently using Lightroom as their Cataloging and Editing software, but many are not entirely happy with Adobe's subscription-only model. DxO can be purchased outright and may be a viable alternative for some who don't need to upgrade their software every year.
This extended video tutorial is intended to help some photographers who are interested in making the transition from Adobe Lightroom to DxO PhotoLab 8 as 'pain-free' as possible.
In this video I outline some of the advantages and potential disadvantages of using DxO PhotoLab 8 instead of Adobe Lightroom. Advantages for using DxO PhotoLab include its class-leading Denoising Technologies (that make images captured with ISO 12800 look like they were captured with ISO 100) and their outstanding 'Lens Softness Compensations' that make budget lenses appear as sharp as some very expensive lenses.
Although the DxO PhotoLab editing workflows are very different to the workflows you are used to in Lightroom, this tutorial will provide you with all of the editing tips required to make the learning-curve less steep and pain-free. One of the points I cover in this 90-minute video tutorial is that photographers looking to transition to using new software can keep using their Lightroom Catalog, even after they stop paying their monthly subscriptions. This last fact may just help some photographers feel more comfortable to make the transition at their own pace.
