Sigma has announced a 300-600 telephoto zoom lens with a constant F4 aperture.
The weight of this lens is 8.75 lb / 3.97 kg. The length of the lens is 18.5" / 469.9 mm without the lens hood attached. The price of the lens is USD $5,999.00
When shooting with the A1, A1 II and A9 III the frames per second will be limited to 15 fps.
This lens is three times the cost of the Sony 200-600 F5.6-6.3 G OSS. It is also 85% heavier and 50% longer than the FE 200-600 F5.6-6.3 G OSS lens. It is also longer and 1.5 lb heavier than Sony's FE 600mm F4 GM.
The F4 Advantage
If you are shooting an action shot at an ISO of 2000 with the FE 200-600 F5.6-6.3, you could have captured the same shot at ISO of 800 if you had been using the new Sigma 300-600 F4 lens. How significant this is, could depend on whether you have embraced AI denoising options in your Post-production editing software and how often you photograph in conditions with very low ambient lighting.
