With lockdown I have not had the chance to test the new FE 20 mm f/1.8 G lens on one of my International location shoots, so I popped out to the beach this morning to shoot the same subject at the same distance with both the FE 20 mm f/1.8 G and the FE 24 f/1.4 GM - the apertures were wide open in all examples.

I have uploaded the images as 6K files (6,000 px on the longest dimension) and 4K for the crops.

Initial Conclusions
1. The GM has some color fringing when shooting wide open at f/1.4. The G has no colour fringing when shooting wide open at f/1.8 (last image zoomed to 200%)
2. With the 20mm being only 4 mm wider than the GM, some may find the angle of view is surprisingly wider than the 24 mm GM. I personally prefer the steeper perspective and wider angle of view of the 20 mm. I am used to working with the 16 mm focal length of the 16-35 and the 18 mm Batis.
3. You would have to be obsessed with sharpness to purchase one above another because of this factor. Both are very sharp wide open.
4. I prefer the figure ground separation of the 20mm over the 24mm - the 20mm pushes the background further away while the 24 has shallower depth of field (note the shallow depth of field on the face of Poppy the dog when captured with the GM at f/1.4.
5. Build quality of both lenses looks very similar
6. Both lenses have fast XD Linear Focus Motors
7. Both lenses have aperture rings, click On/Off buttons and focus hold buttons.
8. Sony's list price in Australia for the FE 24 f/1.4 GM is 45% more expensive than the FE 20 mm f/1.8 G
