Please add any questions you have during the month of February to this forum.

I am currently preparing this months Seminar.

Topic will include:

1. Straight Out Of Camera: How much post processing do I do when I am showcasing the attributes of a Lens or Camera

2. How do I choose the appropriate camera and lenses to take to a shoot.

I hope to have the video seminar ready for the middle of the month (its been a busy couple of weeks with 3 lens reviews I am working on + the A1 camera review).

Mark, do all Sony lenses focus wide open? I believe you have mentioned this elsewhere, but I cannot find the reference.

Mark Galer

In AF-C they focus at your chosen aperture but when in AF-S most will open wider momentarily to acquire focus. There are a few exceptions, most notably the FE 85 F/1.4 GM. It is also worth mentioning that the aperture does not always open to the maximum aperture. You can check what your lens is doing by looking down the lens as it tries to acquire focus. This topic is also covered in my low light video tutorial.

Sorry if this question is in the wrong forum... just went from 2. to 3.0 firmware on sony A9II. Saved camset before downloading new firmware. Now can not reload camset. message says file does not exist on my card, but I can see it there. Any ideas? thanks-

Mark Galer

You will now have to wait for me to update my firmware, update my CAMSET files and make these available online. CAMSET files are specific to versions of firmware. Unfortunately I am working with a different camera at the moment testing a new product so won't be able to get onto this for a week or two. There wasn't huge differences for firmware 3 and I would normally avoid an update that requires the camera to be Initialised until I have time to set the camera up again. This will be a half day job for me as I double-check and triple check the settings and then make the PAL settings available in NTSC and PAL formats.

thank you - ugh - Sony said to copy the calmset before upgrade of firmware and did not say it would not work!

Dear Mark, I've loaded your Action settings for the A1. Now I try to fine tune them to my needs. One thing puzzles me, switching from FF to APSC. I am used to see the Pixels in the top middle view 21M - 50M. In your settings I can only see the pictogram change on the bottom right of the screen. How to set that back to what I'm used? Best regards, Johan

Mark Galer

Can you copy and paste this into the May Q&A forum. This forum is the one for February- thanks.

Hi - I'm trying to emulate the video settings in Gerald Undone's video here: https://youtu.be/kE-6VOz66sU - can anyone help here? Plus does anyone know if you can or cannot record 8K out to the Ninja V in s-log3? BTW, I definitely want o shoot in S-Log3

Mark Galer

I do not use Gerald's workflow. I prefer not to use the Log profiles and do not record at such High ISO values as Gerald. I do not have a Ninja that supports 8K. Maybe Gerald will answer you questions on YouTube.

Thank you for making so many helpful videos. I've been setting up some movie settings on the A7R Mark3. As I've already used M1-3, I have assigned the settings to M4. I found the settings saved on card #1. Is there a way to tell the camera to save the M4 settings to SD card slot #2? I'd like to leave a lighter duty card in that slot for saving memory settings (the ones beyond the M1, M2, M3 dial.) Thank you, James

Mark Galer

On the same page in the menus where you register memories you should also see the option to choose which Slot to save and recall the memories from, e.g., Memory/Recall Media > Slot 2. You can load a memory from a memory card and then remove the card from the camera (the settings will be retained). In my Total Recall video tutorial I recommend keeping a 'lighter duty' card in your camera bag just for this purpose so that you never have to Format this card used for loading memories from.

James Reben

Okay I found the post. Anyway, thanks Mark it worked fine.

Mark--I am an accomplished photographer using Sony equipment (most recently the A1) and Lightroom . However, I have near-zero experience with videography from capture through to editing. Can you recommend an online course/resource that could get me started? Michael Lobel

Hi Michael - this is the February 2021 Q&A forum. You will find the current Q&A forum directly below the banner image on my Patreon support site. Here is a direct link to the current Q&A forum. When you ask your question it is important to mention the model of camera you are currently using so I can best advise you. https://www.patreon.com/posts/q-forum-august-69858243
