Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia & New Zealand that  commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations. Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally devised to honour the members of the Australia & New Zealand Army Corps  (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War.

Captured with the A1 and A9II cameras using the FE 135mm F1.8 and FE 35mm F1.4 GM Primes.

Thank you, Mark. I have a graduation to photograph in June and this does help with lens choice to match up with my a1. You do admirable work.

Great stuff Mark and thanks to all that served. I think I need an A-1..Just need to win that darn lottery!!

Superb photos. How much post processing do you do ? Sharpen ? Add contrast ? Etc. ? Thanks

Mark Galer

This month's Seminar I released yesterday is a Post Production special that focusses on my workflow. It looks at the sharpening and contrast etc.

Lovely images Mark. I particularly like the breadth of ages and ethnicities represented in these pics. The sharpness is fantastic and exactly what I'm finding in my own pics with the A1 and a new Sigma 85 mm f/1.4 lens.

Diversity of coverage is important to reflect the nature of a remembrance event. It's as much as about the older soldiers who lost their comrades in battle as it is about the younger generations paying remembering the older generations for their sacrifice.

I had to crop this one as the moment disappeared quickly as his two friends retrieved their hats. With more time I was going to slide left to get a less cluttered background (which you can't see in this image because I cropped it away into quite narrow vertical composition).

These portraits are fantastic.

Thanks - This is what I like doing best. Interacting with people at events or at their place of work has provided me with a rich and fulfilling life as I connect to other peoples lives and their stories.

I love these portraits Mark. The sun helps (shows lines on the old people, complete lack of them on the young), but it's the background separation from the wide open lens that really makes them stand out. Interesting that you focused so much on individuals when in my memory, Anzac Day is all about parades and marching. But I guess that is implicit in the uniforms etc.

Mark Galer

I like the separation the 135 and 35 offer when shooting wide open. A third of the images are captured while people are marching but I still like to single out a face in the crowd. The Classic establishing shot showing large crowds was made more difficult because of COVID restrictions preventing crowds from forming this year. Having an editorial background has also skewed how I approach these events. The picture editor would typically only select one crowd shot and a couple of detail shots while the rest would focus on individuals.

Outstanding captures. Just became a patron and I always appreciate your content. I took delivery on the A1 a few weeks ago and have both of these lenses. Now all I need is your talent. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback. Check out some of the seminars if you have a few hours to kill. There is a broad selection of topics from image capture tips and techniques, choice of gear, composition through to post production workflows. You will see a link below the banner image. There is also a Q&A forum specifically for Alpha One users.
