Sony have announced an APS-C Vlogging Camera based on the success of their ZV-1.

It offers  advantages over their existing APS-C cameras for Vlogging with its flip-out screen, better microphone and the ability for the camera and microphone to be picked up from the drop down menus in applications such as Skype or Zoom. It's advantage over the Z-V1 camera is that its larger sensor size  is able to blur the background much more efficiently when using an f/1.8 or f/1.4 prime lens.

As you can see from my comparison chart, the lack of a built in ND filter and the same old non-backlit illuminated sensor are a bit disappointing. Sony appears to driven by creating a budget vlogging camera rather than something that is best-in-class.

I will be releasing a video review of this camera in about 10 days time. Due to repeated delays in the announcement I have found myself on location with the product review video sitting on my computer back in my office.

Let me know if you have any questions regarding this product.

When will they have an easier interface with apps like Instagram, FB and YT? Until then I'll just keep using my phone :(

Hello Mark, I want to ask you what will be the best and affordable lens for vloging on this camera?

Mark Galer

The 16-55 kit lens will be the cheapest but if you want to go a little wider than 16mm when holding the camera you could check out the SEL 10-18 f/4. If you want shallow depth of field you could check out the sigma 16mm f/1.4 or a samyang 12mm f/2.
