Please ask all of your photography questions during the month of June 2022 using this forum. When replying to a post that is more than a few days old it would help me enormously if you start a new discussion thread as it will be easier for me to find your question. Thanks.

The forum image was captured at Degraves Place in Melbourne's CBD with the A7IV and FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II. I used my standard Portrait settings but raised the ISO Auto Min SS from 1/250 to 1/500 to freeze this woman who was walking briskly.

Hi Mark, I need your guidance with a problem I am having obtaining an accurate view of low light scenes (sunsets) in my A7RIII EVF and rear live view. The colors and lighting are not representative of what I am seeing. Yet, when I use my iPhone what I see on the screen is almost exactly what I am seeing with my naked eye. Are there any settings / adjustments that will allow me to see a scene rendered closely to what I see naturally? Thank you in advance! Carl

Is there a way to simultaneously live view multiple ASs3 or Alhpa 1 cameras with the imaging edge mobile or desktop app?

Mark Galer

Hi Carl I see you have found the current Q&A forum. There will be a new forum posted tomorrow. Mirrorless cameras use a feature called Live View Display > Setting Effect On to preview both the exposure and the depth of field in order to match the image which will then be captured. In very low light situations which require very long exposures, such as night photography, this may no longer be accurate. If this is the case you can try either switching off the Live View Display > Setting Effect or use a feature called 'Bright Monitoring'. The Bright Monitoring feature does not appear in the main menus unless you first go to the Custom Key Setting and then assign Custom key to the function. This will provided you with a view that allows you to compare an image even when the ambient light is very dark. e.g. Astro photography. You may also want to choose a manual white balance setting for night photography.

I believe Imaging Edge can only strike up a connection with one camera at any one time. It might be possible for an external monitor to take multiple feeds from multiple HDMI cables but it is something I have not had the need to do. I don't see any products advertised that even promote they can accept a video signal via bluetooth or Wi-Fi so you may need to do some research into broadcast TV producers who have to be able to juggle multiple feeds from different cameras while working live.

Carl

I will give it a try...thanks!

Hi Mark I would like to ask does the new software update on the cameras gets rid off the camset?

Mark Galer

No - you can use the existing CAMSET. Occasionally a firmware update initializes the camera but this is not the case for the version 1.3 update.

Hi Mark, I was recently using my A1 overseas, and able to take an image both via the view finder and the camera back. Using the image on the camera back is very useful for low shots when I do not wish to kneel. However suddenly I cannot see images on the back of the camera. I have not changed any settings. Secondly, I bought a loawa 15mm lens 2 years ago to fit the Sony full frame cameras, which were the A9 and A7R3 at that stage. There was not fixed wide angle with Sony at that time. It worked fine with both those cameras. I recently attached it to the A1, and it would not take an image. I received a message that I need to change something in the menu, which I did. It would now take, but the lens vibrates, which of course will not produce a sharp image. Do you have any ideas on this?

Mark Galer

Hi Kerry - can you please copy and paste this into the new July 2022 forum so the other Patrons can see this discussion. Best Wishes Admin team for Mark Galer

Hi Mark, Even on the v1.20, my sony a1 overheat while i record in 8k. I'm not yet moving to 1.30, waiting for more feedbacks on it. What do you think about it? Thank you

Mark Galer

I would only recommend creating short recordings using 8K as the files sizes are so huge and editing these large files can be problematic. Have you tried setting your Auto Power OFF Temp. to High and recording with the monitor pulled out and away from the camera body? If you were recording of any length of time in sunlight I would also rig up some shade for the camera.

I have sent a private message.. but this is probably better. I read somewhere that Mark had a a7iii setup book - focusing on different settings for landscape / wildlife / portrait ... but I am unable to find any e-books / articles specific to the a7iii ... just the a7iv ... any links to setup articles for the a7iii would be appreciated.

Hi Mark, Thank you for the APS-C suggestion. It's a thought, since I so often end up cropping in and losing pixels anyway. I am n to sure if I am entirely rational in my photo equipment choices.

Mark Galer

That's OK - I'm currently selecting gear for a genre I don't normally shoot in (creating motorcycle vlogging diaries for my next overseas trip) so choosing gear is going to be compromise between the best gear and the most portable gear that fits in one messenger bag. Your comment has appeared in the last month's Q&A forum. The current Q&A forum is always the pinned post directly below the banner image.

Hello Mark. I'll squeeze one more July question in. I finally got back to work on my 1st video testing. I thoroughly reviewed all of the settings from your CAMSET file before a test video. I shot a short video and attempted to play it on my PC but I got this message: "An error occurred when opening this media file. It may be because the file is broken, an unsupported format, protected video content or for another reason." I tried both my player and my video editing software and got the same message. They are both products of CyberLink. I looked through the documentation of the 2022 version of my player (I have the 2021 version) and it said that it supports XAVC. I also tried Windows Media Player and it would not play the clips. I have Windows 10. The movies do play in the camera. Do you have an idea? CyberLink Support is closed until Monday @ 09:00.

Hi Jeff, I was wondering if you found a solution to not being able to view xavc files on a PC running Windows 10 (I have the same problem) - VLC media player will play them but do these files need to be converted to use in Davinci Resolve or Cybrelink Power Director where they are only seen as audio files?
