There have been the usual stream of lens reviews where people rate the lens without wanting to leave their studio or, by walking no further than the corner of their street. I am sad to say that few reviewers put enough effort into the shooting aspect of their review.
One very popular reviewer claimed the lens was not exceptionally sharp at the Long Telephoto end. He came to this conclusion by taking one picture of a photo in a magazine!! Just in case you watched this video, here is a link to some ultra high-definition images captured at the telephoto end of the lens - including some with the 1.4x teleconverter attached. You can click to zoom in to check critical sharpness. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAMp9x
Sharpness is in the eye of the beholder.

One reviewer said this was the most significant lens Sony had ever released. I don't provide such opinions in my reviews, as I like them to be based on quantifiable facts and photographic evidence. I can tell you, however, that I will be adding this lens to my own personal travel kit (APS-C or Full-Frame).
