Sony A9III 120fps 24MP Raw
Captured at the St. Kilda Triathlon January 2024
If I was capturing images at a regular sports event with this camera (and not showcasing its 120fps burst mode) I would perhaps only capture 30 images per burst in 30 or 60fps - not 1 and 2 second bursts at 120fps. This video does, however, illustrate that a sports photographer would be free to take any single image from a burst that they believe to be the hero image - knowing that any image they choose will most likely be sharp. AF Tracking is available when shooting with the Hi+ Drive mode (currently not possible with the A1).
The video also illustrates that high ISO performance and dynamic range of this camera is really not an issue for a sports photographer. It's important to remember that this technology is first-generation, and any perceived limitations will undoubtedly disappear over time as Sony perfect this global shutter sensor design.
Note > A 500-page eBook, camera setup file and Raw file download for this A9III camera (and all other late model Alpha cameras) are available for Premium and Premium Plus members.
