As it applies to Joys parents the trauma of a child being kidnapped tears a lot of relationships apart. For her father I think Jack represents all of the terrible things that happened to her and he can’t face that his little girl had to live through that. I understand to a point. It would be hard but he’s an innocent boy and Joy wasn’t to blame either. Horrible things happen to good people. I usually don’t like such real life type movies but this one is really good. I think Brie Larson won an Oscar for it.

I am so glad you thought this movie was incredible. It is one of my favorite movies, and it always makes me cry, even though I have probably seen it like 20+ times. It’s an odd choice for a favorite movie because it is so sad, but it is just written, acted and filmed so well. I also was a fan of the book that the movie is based off of, although personally I like the movie even better than the book. (I think the book is too Jesus heavy in my opinion. It has a lot more mention of Christianity but they cut all of that out which I feel like makes this film more relatable than the book for many who aren’t Christian.) Brie Larson did win an Oscar for her performance in Room! Jacob Trembley won the Critics Choice award that year as well! And the chemistry between Brie and Jacob is so genuine and sweet. Jacob is all grown up now, which is crazy. He also stars in Wonder, which is a wonderful movie that I know has been on polls and I hope wins eventually!

Amazing movie and such incredible performances by Brie and Jacob. I get so excited every time I watch that police officer put the pieces together (despite her skeptical partner). She knew how to extrapolate and construct even the most limited information from that poor kid in order to find his Mom. Just superb detective work from her!

I love this movie. The acting performances by Brie and Jacob are tremendous. I was so happy when they were both recognized throughout award season that year. I don't see many reactions to it so this was a nice surprise. Also, I had seen this movie in theaters after seeing advertisements for it on tv so I knew what I was getting into - it was interesting seeing you go into it blind and try to figure out what was going on. I also just wanted to defend Joy's dad a bit. Obviously, Jack is not in any way to blame for what happened. But I think the important thing to keep in mind, is that they are all working their way through tremendous trauma - including her dad. I'm sure he logically knows Jack is an innocent in all of this but it's also probably very difficult to look at and connect with someone who only exists because your daughter was kidnapped, abused, and violated for seven years. Unfortunately, Jack is the evidence of that abuse. Also I'm sure he views "Old Nick" as evil and Jack is half of his daughter but he is also biologically half that evil man. Again, none of this is Jack's fault and I'm really happy Joy's mom and her new husband were able to still connect with and love Jack because obviously that kid deserves it, but I can also understand that it must be easier said than done when you think of the trauma that they all went through, including her dad.
