Love this movie watched it in high school science class. Side note his father was actually very supportive of his ambition and was only portrayed here as being not so supportive for dramatic effect.

please put role models or this is the end in the poll i’ve been asking for about a month it’s been a minute since you’ve done some 2000s comedies like jump street super bad etc

Lumina - The New World

Glad you enjoyed it! I had a feeling it would be something you'd like. There's a few scenes that get me every time I watch it. Homer's dad defending Roy Lee and the ending especially. Sorry to hear you went through similar things as Homer with your family. Glad you followed your passion and things worked out for you.

I definitely had something of this experience, JV. I come from a really poor family on my Mom's side and had to get scholarships and put myself through college myself. I did have my family's love and support, but movies like this still inspire me too. I'm sorry you didn't have the support you deserved, but kudos to you for being able to persevere and do what you love! For similar inspirational stories, I would suggest Hidden Figures, Hoosiers, The Holdovers, Rocky, Lion, Remember the Titans, Moneyball, Little Miss Sunshine, Catch Me if You Can, and shows like "Ted Lasso." I would also highly recommend The Imitation Game, about Alan Turning, although it's more dramatic. Erin Brockovich is also great, just incredibly fictionalized (and makes the title character look like a much better person than she actually was). Queen of Katwe is a great movie about a girl from Uganda who becomes a chess champ, or Akeela and the Bee is the story of a young girl who triumphs in spelling. (And I'd like to shout out to Mrs. White, my 8th grade English teacher, who inspired me to be a writer, which is what I became.)

Woa that's so weird. My mom was a teacher at some point,Don't know if she would have gone by Mrs White at some point as a teacher. Just a funny coincidence. I don't know what grade she taught. She's passed away now, but I found this was an interesting coincidence. It's great you had someone like that to inspire you. I always struggled in academics myself.
