Part of my childhood I grew up in Spain. The Simpsons is/was huge there asa family show. Merch everywhere. Baby and child clothes, collector's nocilla(the local nutella) jars, figures, everything.... so one day I and pops watched TV and Simpsons was on. It was an episode where the dad (I don't remember his name now) gets a toupé and starts abusing his family. This was so terrifying to little me that every time I saw something Simpsons related I would feel sick for the rest of the day and get nightmares that night until I turned 18... so I hate the show... but appears Family Guy is everything I hate put into one... American adult cartoons tend to be too mean spirited for my tastes...

Thank you! Very well put as always. :) Yep. Number one was certainly called for. While I did thoroughly enjoy Family Guy for my entire thirteenth year, that was when I had just been introduced to the world of adult raunch. And even then, it was only the older episodes. (which I still do enjoy and appreciate.) Even at that age I was able to notice the empty cruelty and age exploitation of the newer episodes. Even if it sometimes happened to get a cheap laugh out of me. Which I suppose counts for something, but still. I now personally feel Family Guy, at least when it's at its very worst, has become even worse than Ren Seeks Help. Well...I don't know, probably not. I just think it's better for something to be completely smutty and mindlessly cruel but up front about what it is, rather than have the same level of vulgarity and malice, and have the pretense to attempt to create genuine drama and provide commentary on serious issues that it clearly has no business or capability talking about. That, and there's a vast difference in budget, planing, and team size that makes it a little easier to forgive. Relatively speaking of course.

Very sophisitcatedly spoken, Mercedes. I agree. The lower budget makes it easier to forgive something upfront like mr pickles. But Seth's writing team has no excuses for the garbage. But I also I agree it sneaks the occasional cheap chuckle out of me too. Just have to be willing to sift through the junk

Thank you! That means the world. :) Yeah, its astonishing how vindictive Seth and his team come across in their newer episodes. Especially seeing how talented and experienced they all are. At least Ren Seeks Help went all out with its bile. Family Guy has become far more calculatingly spiteful and sadistic. I think I might have a theory as to why though. After seventeen years on the air, and the near constant demands from FOX, I can't help but suspect that the Family Guy staff may be going out of their way to insult their audience in a-last-ditched attempt to get cancelled. They even went as far as to kill off Brian and replace him with an Italian stereotype. And when they brought him back after an intense community backlash, they made him even more shallow, vindictive, and pretentious then ever. Even Seth himself has admitted that he wants to end the show. Yet it still manages to bring in the ratings. Its already returned from cancellation before, and FOX is showing no signs of wanting to let the series go. So the show has sort of become stuck in purgatory. Seemingly desperate for the sweet relief of cancelation.

It does often feel like they *want* to get cancelled, yet at the same time it feels like they're "trying" with some episodes. I guess whats most disturbing is that even when they're trying to get cancelled they still keep doubling the south park viewership.. I guess it bothers me what that speaks about society
