I paid $860 to move from one one bedroom apartment to another. I think it was 2-3 hours total and was a reasonable price. I imagine Bryan has a proportional amount of more stuff and more space that I such that $2k is reasonable

Moving costs used to be federally tax deductible but they did away with that with the 2017 tax bill. They’re deductible in some states but doesn’t look like that’s the case for Ohio. But looks like it is allowed in Canada tho so that’s nice. Another standard of living disparity to put on the board

Came here to post this. Chris, you will be absolutely SCREWED if a pipe bursts or whatever. I have worked in insurance for 25 years & it is one of the most common uncovered claims you see. Just get it with a high deductible and it'll cost next to nothing but if the worst happens, you guys will get all your stuff back.

As a guy who's city was hit badly by a tornado, I HIGHLY recommend renters insurance. Hurricanes are moving further inward and causing terrible damage and flooding in areas where there used to be none.

Moving costs are really variable. If the movers are packing boxes or padding furniture, that’s an up-charge. If they’re driving a moving truck with your furniture to a second location, that’s an up-charge. The cheapest movers I ever hired were $350 because all I wanted was some burly guys to carry my pre-packed boxes and furniture out of a building and into a U-Haul. Then I had to pay $350 again to get different burly guys to unload the U-Haul for me. Chris’s numbers are sus.
