Behind the Scenes: The Truth About My Latest Releases (Patreon)
Content
The photo is my Beatport, showcasing my last releases. I want to share some insight with everyone because I think transparency is really valuable.
Of these past releases, a few are new and a few are old tracks that have been placed in complications.
THE GOODMy new track Northern has only sold a few copies so far (it's still in pre-order and I haven't promoted it yet, so makes sense). But it was the "Volcano ID" Project I shared on Patreon that one of my students finished with me, which makes this release especially rewarding! (click the link to grab that project file for free).
An Owl's Flight was also released on a new compilation years after it's initial release on Hoomidaas and ALSO still selling.
My Kaleidoscope remix.. I honestly didn't have much faith in when it first released.. yet years later it's still selling on this new compilation. THE NOT SO GOOD, BUT STILL GOODThen there's my new Mileage Run remix on Mango Alley. This was the release I thought would perform the best. It's my biggest remix to date, I love the track, it had promotion from me, the legendary Christian Smith, and Dmitry Molosh... and it's currently sitting around #54. Not as good as some of my other releases, but still happy with it.
My track Night Emeralds is one of my favorite songs I've ever written and was released on the amazing label Balance Music. It was put in a compilation among 30+ other amazing producers. It never charted, and I am still super proud of that one, I just hoped it performed a bit better.THE TAKEAWAY
We're often terrible judges of our own music.
The track I expected the least from is still selling and the ones I believed in the most are underperforming in my expectation.
Great music doesn't always get the results it deserves right away.
The competition is stronger than ever, and success depends on timing, exposure, and reaching the right audience, not just how good the track is. Some of my older tracks are still selling years later, some have entered the charts months after they've been released. So if you've released something that didn't perform the way you hoped, don't automatically assume the music wasn't good enough.
And if you've finished music you're not particularly proud of, it's possible that you are just judging yourself too hard. Share it around, see what trusted friends and producers think before moving on.Keep improving, keep releasing, and remember that every release is only one step in a much bigger journey. 💪
