Andy gets a babybox unit installed...

Now we know where he gets his looks from. Good genes in that family.

Ericka

Oh darling, it would have been a travesty to leave poor Tom in a boy's shell. With the genes of both mother and grandmother running strong through, now, her. Who wouldn't be over joyed? I do hope during those nine months she join the exchange program a comes to the Kentucky Derby with all the other aristocrats. (This is all being said with a southern belle)

Aidan

A very sweet moment. The young lad will do anything for those two. Love the leather pants.

Chapter 1: Rachel Evening falls. Rachel is sitting in the guest room where Hugo will spend his first night. Everything is ready: the white sheets, the empty wardrobe, the two-way mirror hidden in the wall. It's not a girl's room yet. Not yet. But it will be. She's holding the notebook her mother gave her earlier. The same notebook they read to her when she was her age, in low voices, like reversed lullabies: "Posture, smile, vocabulary. As soon as he gives in, you move forward. As soon as he doubts, you reinforce." It's a shaping manual, disguised as a diary. Rachel sighs. This isn't a punishment, Élise had said. But Rachel knows it's not a liberation either. She's a relay. A former puppet turned puppeteer. And she doesn't yet know if this empowers her... or condemns her to relive, once again, her own erasure. Chapter 2: Hugo Hugo looks at the flowers through the window. They're beautiful, the roses. But he doesn't understand why he's here. His mother had told him he was going to "spend a little time with some nice people." Not that she'd leave without saying goodbye. Rachel smiled at him earlier, but something in her gaze made him uncomfortable. She's looking at him like someone looking at an object to be restored. A project. Not a person. He hears her voice in the hallway. She's talking to the old woman who called him "my darling" when she only smiled with her mouth. "We'll have to start with the body routine. Washing, nails, skin. Then the posture classes. Passive resistance is to be expected, but he's young, that's a good thing." Hugo backs away. He doesn't understand everything, but he knows this isn't a normal conversation. He's not sure he's safe here. Chapter 3: Rachel The next day, Rachel helps Hugo put on his clean clothes. The white shirt is a little too tight. The shoes have stiff, straight, silent soles. "You look very handsome like this," she says. She hears her own voice, and she's a little disgusted. Those are exactly the words her mother used to say. She'd promised herself she'd never repeat them. But she says them anyway. Because as she adjusts the lock of his hair, she recognizes that phase she knows so well. The tension. The hesitation. The moment just before the fracture. And she finds herself liking it. Chapter 4: Hugo He tried to say no. When Rachel offered him the hairbrush, he pushed it away. When she wanted him to sit "cross-legged," he growled. But she never gets angry. She smiles. And she does it again. "Just once. It's a game. After that, you do what you want." He gives in, once. Then twice. Then he's not sure when it became normal. He sometimes cries in the bathroom, but silently. He doesn't dare call his mother. He doesn't even know if he still has one. And above all... he's starting to find himself "pretty" sometimes. Chapter 5: Rachel She calls him Chloe now. Just to test it out. He doesn't protest anymore. She thinks that maybe she's actually saving him. Giving him a new life. Freeing him from the chaos of before. From the pain of being a useless, lost boy, destined for failure. But in her mirror, she sees her own eyes again at nine. The same ones. Broken, polished, made smooth. And sometimes, at night, she sits on the edge of Chloé's bed and whispers to her: "You're not alone. Me neither, I didn't have a choice." But she says that once he's already asleep. Chapter 6: Second Month – The Protocol of Silence Each morning begins the same way. A lukewarm shower. The application of flowery-scented lotion. Carefully chosen clothes: discreet, neutral, barely feminine. A skillfully calculated in-between. Rachel writes everything down in a notebook: reactions, gestures of recoil, glances in the mirror. Day 48: Hugo asked why his new clothes weren't blue anymore. Day 53: He put on lip balm on his own. Day 57: He corrected another child who called him "little boy." Rachel doesn't correct him. She observes. She waits. She knows, as her mother taught her, that it's not imposition that creates transformation. It's silence. It's repetition. And it's gentleness. Chapter 7: Third Month – First Erasure “Do you remember your full name?” Rachel asks casually one evening. Hugo blinks. He hesitates. “Hugo... Lefèvre?” he says with a hint of uncertainty. She smiles softly. “Are you sure?” He lowers his eyes. She corrects him: “You mean Chloé Lefèvre.” He doesn't say anything. He nods weakly. She writes it down. The next day, she takes off all the clothes marked “Hugo.” He doesn't protest. Chapter 8: Fourth Month – The Mirror's Threshold The bedroom mirror has been altered. Bigger. Brighter. It's no longer there to reflect. It's there to shape. Rachel encourages Chloé to look at herself in it every night. She says it's to help her “find herself.” In reality, it's so she stops searching for herself. Her posture changes. Her gestures become more precise, more restrained. Chloé begins to hide her arms, to position her hands like Rachel. It's unconscious. Almost touching. Rachel feels a pang in her heart. She recognizes these gestures. They're the ones she copied from Élise, years earlier. The circle begins to close. Chapter 9: Fifth Month – A Rebellious Strand It's minimal. Insignificant. But Rachel notices it immediately. Chloé has parted her hair on the side. She's tucked a strand behind her ear. Naturally. Without instructions. Rachel stops, frozen. It's no longer a mimicked gesture. It's a habit. A signature. She understands then that the resistance has ceased. That an irreversible shift has begun. And yet, that evening, Rachel cries for a long time in her room. No remorse. Just a kind of fatigue. A distorted memory. Because now she no longer remembers what she was like before. Chapter 10: Sixth Month – Elise's Exam Elise returns, elegant, wrapped in black leather and cold compliments. She inspects Chloé as one would judge a tailor-made suit. She doesn't address her, not yet. She speaks to Rachel, as if the child were nothing more than a garment on a mannequin. "She's graceful. Delicate. Perhaps a little slow with her diction, but it will come. You've worked well, my darling." Rachel nods. She feels neither pride nor shame. Just a quiet fatigue. Chloé, however, smiles shyly. She has no idea she's just passed an invisible exam. Chapter 11: Seventh Month – The Inverted Notebook Rachel gives Chloe a small pink notebook. — This is your journal now. You can write what you feel, or what you want to be. Like a dream book. It's a test. A key step. The blank page. The symbolic space where the new identity must be born. Chloe writes her name in round letters. She draws a butterfly. She signs: Chloe. 9 years old. Rachel closes her eyes again. The ritual is complete. Chapter 12: Eighth Month – The Impossible Goodbyes Rachel finds a forgotten box in the attic: an old blue cap. A Pokémon t-shirt. A badge that says "Hugo – CP." She hesitates. She could have shown them to him. Remind him. Offer him a break. But she burns them in the fireplace, as her mother had done before her with her own things. Without trembling. That evening, Chloé dreams she was someone else. A vague dream. Nameless. Chapter 13: Ninth Month – The Hatching A light dress. White sandals. Clip-on earrings she chose herself. Chloé comes down the stairs, hesitant but smiling. She no longer asks if she "should" wear this. She wants it. She demands it. Rachel is waiting for her, her eyes moist. "You look beautiful, my darling." Élise is there too. She claps softly. "The program is a success. You've completely integrated her." Rachel squeezes her mother's hand. Then Chloé's. And she knows: this is no longer Hugo. Not even a memory. He was born a girl. She grew up as a girl. And she is loved as such.
