Hello everyone. Are you having a good day?

Emm... every poll season gives me a headache. Just as I predicted, I’ve received some comments and DMs. Honestly, I get out of breath and my hands tremble every time a poll season comes around this days.. There were a few incidents, you know, haha = v=a..

Mmm, Let me briefly summarize my Patreon schedule.

The first week is freehand drawing. It is the only blank space on my Patreon schedule and practically the only week where I draw whatever I want. It is also the week I fill in for when I am late for my schedule.

The second week is content about my OC. It consists of proposals, polls, and a roulette round on a quarterly basis, and I draw based on ideas from members. Actually, the reason this content was created is also because of the Character Poll. There were a few times when my OC invaded the character poll and won, and some people didn't like that. However, there were people who wanted to provide specific ideas for my OC, so I separated the OC from the poll and created this content.

The third is the Character Poll I am currently running. It was first introduced to my Patreon in July 2020. As you all know, it works just like a popularity poll. It is true that the structure makes it more advantageous for specific genres and outfits to win votes compared to other characters. So, in order to prevent one character from winning multiple times in a short period of time, characters with a winning record are given a break of 6 months to a maximum of 1 year, and re-entering with the same outfit is prohibited. And in order to preserve character diversity, I also introduced a roulette system on the same day.

So, the content for the fourth week is roulette. To ensure character diversity, I do not allow duplicate characters except for those wearing completely different outfits, and I do not allow other people's OCs due to copyright issues or the level of explicitness in fan art. (This issue has also been causing me a lot of thought regarding Vtubers recently.) In reality, the roulette seems to be working well as I intended, and various characters that failed to win in the Poll have even taken the top spot.

I have organized the schedule like this. Currently, this routine is fixed on my Patreon schedule. If so, a commonality can be seen in the three drawings excluding the first week. First, I draw by incorporating the idea of the member who requested the character.

And second, yes, there are inevitably options that are absolutely 'not chosen.' I can only draw the single character selected from each piece of content, and that remains the case this month, the month after, and the month after. The biggest problem is that my schedule is already at capacity.

Let's assume I create a separate poll for gacha characters. Should I run it separately every month? Then, in which slot of my schedule should I place it? The first week? Or should I run a theme poll exclusively for gacha characters every quarter, replacing the existing poll? If so, what about the people who don't want to see gacha characters? Just like ZZZ right now.

Then, what about permanently banning characters from specific works, just like ZZZ? Conversely, what about the people who want to see ZZZ characters? Just like the people who voted for Promeia right now.

Let's assume I save the second-place character. When should I draw the second-place character? The first week? Or should I draw the second-place character instead of the first-place character every specific quarter? Then, what about the people who voted for first place? Or what if I just make the character people want to see second place?

Let's assume I delete the OC content. That would free up more slots to implement the schedule above. Then, what about the people who want to see the OC content? What if it is content that PlusOut usually fails to come up with? Should I then put my OC back into the poll?

Assuming I implement all of that, mmm... what about me? When do I... draw what I want to draw?

...

The best way to solve this problem would be for me to literally become a drawing machine. But cursedly, if I were to draw all day according to the current schedule, four pages would be the limit, so that isn't a realistic solution. Hmm, if I were to delete all the variations, I think I could draw up to six.

Ultimately, I cannot satisfy everyone, and there will inevitably be options that go unchosen. Perhaps that is why an AI with my style was created, and why people became enthusiastic about it.

I have pondered this problem for a long time, but I ultimately failed to come up with a solution that could satisfy many people. Well, actually, I did come up with a few. However, that would mean breaking the fixed schedule I have promised to provide to you all and have consistently delivered until now.

I think the suggestion made by member Yurinov—to take a few months off from the character genre—is worth considering as a somewhat realistic alternative. However, various thoughts hold me back when it comes to setting a deadline. After all, it has been six months since the ZZZ characters made it to the final vote.

I originally intended to write this as a comment, but as I was writing, it got too long, so I decided to just make a post. That is the situation for now. I haven't been able to come up with an alternative yet. I just feel a bit exhausted these days. I wish I were a little more capable, and I apologize for having to write this post.

I'm going back to draw. Have a nice day, everyone.

I hope you don't stress too much about this. If the zzz character becomes unpopular anyway, the other character will win the vote

BlueSky2

It’s really unfortunate and sad that it’s gotten to that point =( Looking back at what has won I really feel like there isn’t a series diversity issue. So I’m fine with the current system. If anything there’s more of a case of certain outfits being kinda OP in the community. But even then that’s also calmed down too. You could limit a rotating ban list of sorts of X type of outfit won/Z series won within the past Y months so no suggesting X outfit or Z series for Y months but honestly I think the system is fine as is. Could do a poll to verify it’s just a loud minority. Edit: One other idea that I’ve seen is weighted polls, where it’s a roulette but each vote adds weight to someone so people with more votes have a higher chance of winning, but it doesn’t mean it’s solely majority rule (But really I think the current system is fine and you should do whatever causes you the least stress)

It sounds like you're going through a very difficult time. If you're forcing yourself to draw, there's absolutely no problem with slowing down your pace a bit. I have a suggestion: how about holding two of the three voting/roulette events every other month? Personally, I'd like the roulette event, which isn't influenced by popularity, to be held every month, so I made this suggestion. However, if you want to be fair, you could also reduce the voting and roulette events to twice every three months. Please take care of yourself.

Well, you sounds a little bit exhausted or depressed. Please take care yourself. About polls - so, I understand people’s concern, my own variant didn’t pass polls last month. But Plusout is right - it’s very difficult to find a proper solution which would be allowed by everyone. Especially in this situation where we have a lot of models from a lot of game/anime. So I offer people to provide their opinion how improve polls process in this topic

…has it really already been six months? It really doesn’t feel like it. Huh… Still, fair’s fair. It would only be right to stick to the agreement and at least let ZZZ back on the polls. If anything, I hope things go the way BlueSky2 mentions about the OP outfits. I still remember how Genshin Impact used to be an easy way to get your nomination to the finals, or how we got so much back-to-back playboy bunny outfits that it warranted it’s own post like this one. Thankfully, those issues seem to have corrected themselves since, but I do wonder how long that’ll take with ZZZ’s case. In general though, polls have recently been just an exercise in futility. Either you strategize and stack the deck in your favor by bunching a ton of the recent community-favorite things, or you commit to the performance of a humiliation ritual and pray you’re taken pity on. Worst is becoming a finalist, only for your nominee to become the least popular pick and get overtaken by a big fuck-off margin. It’s not taxing, but so much defeat eats at the mind… It’s all so tiresome.

That's both sides of the coin of having a poll system. On one hand, you're almost assuredly drawing something that's popular in the moment, which helps new people looking for said popular in the moment to find you. On the other, there will always be people complaining, then, that you're only drawing what's popular. By definition, this is a loud minority; if they were in the majority, then clearly that wouldn't be the case and the polls would show more variety. As someone whose taste generally lies outside of gacha games and otherwise new releases, I avoid submitting to the poll for this exact reason. I see no point in putting something forward into a pool of 50 choices when I know full well it's got no chance of getting out of the bottom of the poll, much less the final, even less winning. However, as there's clearly a hubbub around polls, that's ALSO a minority opinion. There's really no great solution. Leave it as it is and you're still dealing with the loud minority complaining that their choices don't win. Altering the poll on arbitrary genres and people will find new and exciting ways to complain their choices don't win. Remove the poll in favor of a second roulette option and there's less complaining that you didn't win, but you lose the aforementioned currently relevant art. Remove the poll entirely, and now you've lost a higher tier subscriber benefit, and what do you fill that with? Truly an unenviable situation, as no matter what you choose, someone's going to be upset by it. The only thing I'd add is that I doubt an AI in your style has anything to do with this. You could put out 50 full variations in a month and that AI would STILL exist; AI is for people who cannot have enough and always need more.

I dont understand for real, you are the artists so the rules are clear but people continue bother you for change the rules for they want in 3 times the character i put in the votes win and i never be angry for lost the rest and i never want rules as forbiden characters or tematics again this is you Patreon and i hate people always bother you i think is better you continue whit you scheddule and not change it for what want x people again they are not the boss here you are boss and the rules are so clear you at least is what i think

Voltix321

Like you said, you can’t please everyone. And characters from gotcha games like ZZZ are popular and often win the character polls and don’t allow for other non-gotcha game characters to win (I admit, I am also guilty of always suggesting gotcha characters myself). Maybe you could alternate each month between a regular non-gotcha game character poll and a gotcha game only poll. So like even numbered months you could do a regular character poll and odd numbered months you could do a gotcha game character poll. You don’t have to do this obviously, you are the artist and can do what you want (and there are a large amount of your followers who will like and appreciate your art regardless).

Garferno

I’ll fully admit, I get a little annoyed when basically exclusively the most popular characters in the moment win over the characters I like and want to see, (let’s be real, I’m never getting Litchi Faye Ling or Vanessa Enoteca,) but I know you can’t arbitrarily pick whatever you want. What you’re doing now is a fairly good way to handle it, but of course, you can’t please everyone and the minority will always be the loudest. But I honestly am impressed at what you’re capable of putting out right now and I don’t want you to feel like you need to do more. The people that want more from you are the same people tolerating AI art, they only care about finished products and themselves. They know nothing about the process that goes into creating something and you deserve better than to listen to their selfish demands. Take care of yourself before anything.

A small suggestion regarding roll rotation to the issue of repeating genres, IPs or even characters. Perhaps you can make a sort of "cooldown" for the selected choices? Such as not including X title until the next poll or some sort, which is entirely your choice to decide the duration of the ban pick. Of course, best if you let people know a heads-up on what title is on a cooldown. Maybe it can make things fresh for your choices and maybe fair-ish for more niche titles but pretty characters.

BigBoi99

As someone who did suggest the separate gacha poll, I will totally concede that isn't the only way to go about it. I think that or putting certain franchises on cool down, which you did last year for ZZZ, would be ideal. I don't hate seeing gacha characters as much as other people, but a little variety in who wins and who you draw I feel would help a long way, both for us and more importantly you. And yes I know there's the random character drawing, which I'm totally in favor of keeping as well. I just think that the main character poll sometimes need some diversity is all. If I can offer an alternative that might please everybody, how about making the character polls themed, like one month it's about girls in bikinis or another month it's obscure anime? You know something like that to make the choices fresh and fun for everyone. Ultimately, it's your call and at the end of the day I'll support whatever decision you ultimately make. But at the same time, I do feel something has to change for everyone's sake. What that ultimately is up to you, though I will say please don't stress yourself out over this. Your personal well being is important and if this is stressing you out, then please take some time for yourself as well. Your art is great, but isn't worth your mental and physical health taking a strain as well. Take care of yourself PO, and keep up the amazing work.

Zillavader

Honestly, you should do what feels right to you. It’s is YOUR art. So you should be able to choose how to goes about being made, and what gets made. I’m sorry to hear that this has made you feel this way. But just know that there are some, like myself, that aren’t judging you andare happy with the work you produce and how you go about doing it. Stay strong my friend.

Andrew 199941

I'll try to keep this brief. Whatever choice you make regarding your art and polls should be at your own accord, it is your work, nobody should have the right to dictiate what you can and can't do or draw, myself included. However, if we have a repeat of what happened last year, you have the option to put it on a cooldown, to give other characters a chance. But again, that decision is up to you entirely, I'm just throwing my suggestion here. Just know, that I still the appreciate all the art you've done and will continue to support you all the while.

Dinadan

I see that this troubles you a lot and i understand that there is no good option here. To me the most important thing is that the posts stay on a consistent basis . I dont care what characters win the polls it is the will of the majority after all.

Ginger60

I fully support whatever decision you do in the end. You don’t need to add anymore to your already busy work load. We’re already eating good as it is right now and I thank you for that🙏🏻. My one idea and idk if it’s any good . What if the character polls were franchise themed or outfit themed ? That way there’s more focused diversity I guess. Like say for instance you want to draw Nintendo characters or characters that wear purple, then we all suggest based off the guidelines. Or I guess to go with the gacha separate poll thing, what if the character polls alternate monthly or every 2 months. Let’s say next month or two no gacha characters and then after the month(s) is over. Then gacha characters are allowed or it’s only gacha characters. I’ve seen some other artist to this so everyone doesn’t get burnt out and it keeps things fresh

Ryan

Love your artwork. Will support you.
