Thank you very much to Michael for commissioning this episode!

It's time to wrap on the first book in the series, everyone, and never fear! The second book has been commissioned, there's just a bit of a break between them while I cover Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. This book ends on a bit of an odd moment and I'm going to be wondering what that's about until we get there!

Thanks again to you all for listening, and I hope you've enjoyed the coverage! See you soon with Book 2!

Listening to this many months after the fact. I wanted to comment on the realization we come to about how we were raised impacting how we process the world. My wife experienced neglect and emotional abuse as a child. She experienced abandonment, and lived within a family that didn't not express love to one another on a regular basis. My family hugged and expressed familial affection for one another on a regular and daily basis. My wife did not realize/understand how wrong what she experienced was until she met and got to know my family and see how we interact with each other. Until she heard us telling stories about life growing up. For my part, my mother was emotionally abusive and used guilt as her primary parenting tool. As a result, my sister and I are both hyper aware of the people around us and automatically seek to please b/c learning to please my mother was a survival skill. My mother was a stay-at-home mother who cooked and cleaned, and took us to music/sports practices and events without fail. She expressed love for us often, but my sister and I both bear the scars and instinct for capitulation that comes from being raised by an overbearing mother. My mom passed this past March, and my sister and I both struggle with the fact that her passing, after a 7 year decline, felt as much like a relief than devastation. I'm not sure why I'm putting all of this here. It probably won't be read by anybody, but I wanted to get my thoughts out after hearing the dialog.
