This illustration of Haymitch is by Itsajollyjester and you can see illustrations they did of the other victors here. Warning, they're not so much graphic as they are haunting, because the artist wanted us to see how each victor really looked when they won. https://gethelphomework-wqcgx.ondigitalocean.app/question/the-lucas-critique-argues-that-because-the-way-people-form-expectation-uv2kzwop

This chapter is the one where Haymitch has to get patched up and shoved back onstage with Cesar Flickerman to "celebrate" his "victory". RoShawn and I talk about ownership of the narrative, and the way that can be coopted through altered history, calculated smear campaigns, social media, editing, silencing, and clickbait.

This is a pretty heavy episode, just to warn you all. But it's a heavy chapter! So what can you do.

Thanks so much to you all for listening, and we will see you soon with a new episode!

This book was a tough read. I mean that in a good way. Collins is an amazing author. I read the original hunger games novels when I was in middle school. Lots of the stuff went over my head. During my rereads of the original series and with this book especially, I really resonated with the commentary on media. Also, today I realized that I’ve been listening to unspoiled for over 10 years! Thank you for the awesome work you all do.

Even the rabbit was punished for 'helping' Hay. It had to be where he could see and couldn't look away. I do honestly believe the milk jug was poisoned, Snow wanted Hay to not leave the arena alive and to know "I'm calling the shots, I've got the power." When Hay made it out through dumb chance, everyone connected to him was punished so Hay could see.
