This group of chapters is really weird and I still don't get what's going on, but that's fine because neither does Carl or anybody else. Suffice to say, they manage to escape a pretty awful death by the skin of their teeth, and have almost all the pieces they need for using this gate thingy. Which, for the record, I do not think we should be using!
