Oh boy oh boy, kiddos, it's time for an episode that I'm sure you've all been waiting for. We are finally learning about what happened with Mary, Sam & Dean's mother, as well as many of her friends. It turns out, those folks were more complicit in what happened to them than we ever knew.

About the grandparents' names: it's interesting that the oldest son (Dean) is named after grandma instead of grandpa. I woud think Mary might imagine her next child could be a girl and wait to name the baby after her mom. I think the reality is that the writers didn't want to have two characters in the ep named Dean, so they went with Samuel and Deanna even though it makes slightly less sense.

On why Castiel didn't tell Dean that he couldn't change anything: I personally asume that Dean going back wasn't something Castiel just did on a whim. I instead think that it was a closed time-loop situation. Meaning that there never was a past where Dean wasn't there when his mom made the deal. And so Castiel sending Dean back wasn't changing or altering the past but just closing the time loop. The reason I think this is the case, is because Dean being in the past and telling his mom and grandparents that yellow eyes will attack his mom's friend is the thing that get's his mom involved with yellow eyes in the first place. So if Dean wasn't there originally, how would Deans mom and yellow eyes have met? And if you believe my time-loop theory Castiel couldn't have told Dean that he couldn't save his mom, because then Dean would have acted different than he always had.

The demon wiped their memories of the incident. That's why Mary got out of bed. Dean's warning was wiped out.
